Eric Hoffman likes to get to the heart of things, interior spaces in particular. Interesting, actually, when you consider his roots in the Big Sky country of Montana, where he grew up and then earned his BS in Interior Design from Montana State University, class of 1992. A desire to experience a larger city drew him to Portland with its architectural tradition of warm interior spaces designed to offset the long inclement winters. During his 19+ years working at established firms, Eric established himself as a talented designer of large commercial projects ranging from multi floor tenants, office buildings, healthcare facilities and hotels. In 2006 he and Matt Loosemore formed SUM as a collective for architects and interior designers, engineers, landscape designers, and space planners. Eric now brings his considerable abilities to bear on significant projects, including Insitu’s corporate headquarters in Hood River, OR, Advantis Credit Union’s TI work for existing branches and administrative offices, and an innovative, from-the-ground-up, mixed-use residential project in inner Southeast Portland in which he a development partner. Outside of work, he loves introducing his two boys to the outdoors, playing with power tools, and recognizing the finer aspects of the VW Bus.
