About Eric Hopper

After a career that started in Information Systems that led to senior management roles in a variety of companies, my wife and I purchased Huser Fire Fighting Equipment in March of 2018. We were fortunate to keep all of the long term staff and have enjoyed learning this industry and running this business. Huser has been locally owned and operated since 1948 serving Portland, Oregon and surrounding areas. Our employees are factory trained, tested, and hold valid certification as per the National Fire Protection Association. We are an authorized distributor of Kidde Fire Systems offering extensive experience in the industry while keeping up with the latest that technology has to offer in the world of fire safety. I am married with two teenage children, I am an avid sailboat racer with a partnership in a well campaigned boat that includes success in many local and regional race and even the Pacific Cup race from San Francisco to Hawaii. I also enjoy day sailing and cruising. I am a former bicycle racer and Ironman triathlete that still enjoys cycling and running as time and the body allow.I am open to conversation on through my company e-mail eric@huserfire.com.

    Began as Senior Information Systems manager and assumed many additional responsibilities including all facets of operations for Information Technology, Human Resources, Facilities, and Risk Management for $18 million company. Within Information Systems role I built and maintained a stable IT team, initially replacing outsourced staff with internal employees, thereby building IT expertise while reducing costs. Under my leadership we continued to embrace new technology when appropriate, including partnering with the business lines to acquire, streamline, upgrade, and integrate several vertical business systems including MRP, HRIS, Temporary Staffing, and Accounting packages. In other cases we maintained legacy systems when business needs were being met. Creatively reduced staff in response to budgetary demands while still providing consistent support and tools by sharing IT resources with other business lines, working with part-time employees, and cross-training to provide broader expertise to the remaining staff.As Plant Manager I was responsible for the daily operations of the Packaging Division. The plant is a dynamic co-packing facility serving high profile customers with seasonal swings necessitating from 50 to 300 plus production workers. In Human Resources, in addition to standard practices, there are special challenges related to the non-profit status, the volatile nature of the packaging division, and unique needs of temporary staffing employees. Facility responsibilities included building maintenance, janitorial, and leasing issues. Risk management duties included insurance coverage, contract negotiation and approval, and employee safety considerations. Demonstrated skill in setting and managing to various departmental budgets.
