Lead Mechanical engineer for a small group within Midrex known as "Engineered Solutions". Engineered Solutions is part of the aftermarket group responsible for providing engineering support for all of Midrex's operating plants around the globe. Typical projects for the group include system re-design and de-bottle-necking to increase plant capacity, or improve plant efficiency; system evaluations and inspections to identify signs of excessive wear or process imbalances; and major parts replacement to ensure that critical plant components are replaced in such a way as to ensure minimal down-time and maximize the ease of re-installation.Being such a small group, members of Engineered Solutions need to be multi-talented and capable of stepping in to assist other disciplines as needed. I also took great pride in traveling to our plant sites, participating in equipment commissioning, and see designs come to life. There is no greater judge of a design than putting your hands on it and seeing it work as intended.Other responsibilities within Midrex have included equipment design and installation at the Midrex Tech Center; pilot plant operator at the Midrex Tech Center; "New Technology" engineer; and Lead Mechanical for new-plant engineering.

Koppern Equipment, Inc. (KEI) covers the territory of the USA, Canada, Mexico and Guatemala, and is responsible for customer support and sales activities for the German parent company, Maschinenfabrik Köppern GmbH & Co. KG. KEI's Charlotte site is equipped with a roller press for industrial-scale briquetting/compaction testing to be carried out for prospective customers. The testing facility is also outfitted with a complete test lab including a piston press for initial pre-testing of smaller amounts of relevant materials.Mr. Huhn provided engineering support to KEI as a sales engineer and test operator.
