Pre/Post Graduate Research

Hartford, Connecticut, United States

During the end of my undergraduate studies and into my graduate studies there are three main projects that I worked on.Benchmarking of Visual Tracking Algorithms During Rapid UAV Motion:Conventional visual localization utilizes landmarks for object identification. These landmarks are representations of points, edges, and lines that can be detected and interpreted by a computer. However, there are limitations in the effectiveness of methodologies used. One of these is the effect of rapid motion of the camera system. This can cause different problems with landmark detection. Here the robustness of different landmark identification algorithms will be tested against different types of motion to identify the strengths and weaknesses of each.3D Printed Sealed Mobile Sensor Suite:The goals of this research are to design a 3D printed, egg shaped environmental data logger while considering sensor packaging space constraints and to implement a smart power consumption system for increased endurance. The product is sealed for harsh environmental conditions per IP65 standard as well as for impacts.Hovercraft Robust Control Project:This research project focuses on advanced control system of an unstable hovering robot. I was recruited to work on methodologies to reduce heading error and design more robust turns. The real world application for this is to use hovercrafts for disaster scenarios. Hovercrafts are all terrain so they are ideal for rescue operations during/after a natural disaster. However, currently the turning radius of a hovercraft is too large for it to be practical, which is what this project aims to correct.
