Eric Johnston serves as the Manager of the Instrument Flight Procedure Systems for the Aeronautical Information Services Directorate within the Air Traffic Organization (ATO). He is responsible for the IT systems used in the design, documentation, tracking, analytics, and data distribution of the FAA’s inventory of ~20,000 performance-based navigation (PBN) and conventional instrument flight procedures. He is directly responsible for the FAA’s Instrument Flight Procedure Automation (IFPA) capital investment plan (CIP) program used in the technical refresh and enhancement of systems and hardware used in IFP development.Mr. Johnston began his career in the private sector as a software developer in the then emerging streaming media industry. His career continued as he eventually accepted a position as a Team Lead for the FAA for the development on various IT systems used to track new, amended and cancelled IFPs and the issuance of Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM). He finished his private sector career as the Project Manager for the United States Air Force (USAF) Air Force Training Record (AFTR), which was used to track the training of over 30,000 enlisted and cadet personnel worldwide.In 2008, Mr. Johnston started his public service career by accepting a position with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma as a Lead Systems Analyst on the Logistics Center Support System ERP capital investment initiative. He subsequently took an opportunity with the Office of Information Technology as the Lead for the Requirements Team where he also acted as the Branch Manager for the Requirements, Standards and User Experience Teams. Prior to his current role, he briefly served as an Aeronav Program Specialist within the Aeronautical Information Services directorate.Mr. Johnston holds a Master of Science degree in Government Information Leadership from the National Defense University (NDU) and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Management Information Systems (MIS) from the University of Oklahoma. He holds Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI), the Program and Project Managers (P/PM) certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Federal Acquisition Institute (FAI) as well as several agile software development (Scrum) and Enterprise Architecture certifications (NDU). Eric is also a graduate of the Oklahoma Chapter of the Federal Executive Board (FEB).
