About Eric Jordan, Phd
My name is Eric Jordan. I am a Louisville native with a passion for social and economic justice issues in the city. I have worked in the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) field for five years, and I currently serve as the Manager of Diversity and Inclusion Strategies for Greater Louisville Inc., the local Chamber of Commerce. My job is to research, plan, manage, and strategize various programs, committees, ERGs, workshops, and Chamber initiatives to diversify Louisville’s business community to help make it more equitable. Additionally, I serve as the ProgramManager for Greater Louisville Inc.’s Power to Prosper Minority Business Accelerator program that is designed to help businesses grow and scale to become more powerful economic drivers in the Greater Louisville economy.Prior to joining Greater Louisville Inc., I taught various Sociology courses centered around social justice at the University of Louisville while I pursued his doctoral degree in Applied Sociology. I eventually moved on to become a diversity, equity, and inclusion researcher for the Dean’s Office in the university’s College of Arts & Sciences. In this role, I did research focused on the best methods to hire and retain Black faculty, faculty mentoring strategies, and the development of equitable programs and policies to assist students and faculty of color.In my spare time, I am an avid reader and writer with multiple academic publications in the field ofSociology. I continue to use my sociological imagination and knowledge of DE&I topics, methodologies, and trends to help strategize ways to eliminate, and correct for, the structural barriers that continue to negatively affect people in the various communities in Louisville.

Managed and conducted research in a university setting and helped lead over two dozen training sessions on various topics related to diversity, and used my expertise in literature on social inequalities. Research was used to develop training programs and metrics to assist departments in hiring seven new faculty of color from January 2020-August 2020. Developed over a dozen research summaries, guides, survey tools, and handouts for diversity, equity, and inclusion presentations, seminars, and workshops at the institution which are being used by Faculty Affairs to provide sensitivity training to new hires. Faculty Affairs and Human Resources have adopted these guides in their Fall 2020 semester to train new hires. Supported, and helped retain, diverse faculty members by cultivating a culturally-competent environment through various forms of diversity training, consultation, and advising for faculty and administrators across 21 departments, 17 programs, and 15 centers and institutes.

Reinforced lessons presented by professors by reviewing material with students one-on-one or in groups.
