About Eric Kasper

The development and implementation of advanced numerical simulations incorporating realistic physics. Extensive real-world experience tailoring mathematical models appropriately in light of the analysis goals.Experienced in advanced FEA technology, e.g. custom implementation of new material models, custom implementation of new element technology, custom post-processing analytical methods, optimization. Extensive experience with both material and geometric nonlinearities, incompressible materials, hyperelasticity, plasticity, and a wide range of material models.Event simulation using nonlinear analysis of critical structures to predict the pre and post failure modes. Constitutive model development, both theoretical and numerical, for systems which experience solid-solid phase transformations (both alloys and polymers). Analysis of coupled multi-field problems. Typical examples include thermal-mechanical coupling, electromagnetic-thermal-mechanical coupling, and electrostatic-mechanical coupling. Application to mechanical, electrical, and aerospace fields includingcryogenic applications. Dynamical analysis of mechanical systems undergoing vibration and shock. Extensive experience using dynamic analysis to investigate and guide product development and conduct failure analysis for commercial products across a broad range of industries.Experience includes shape optimization in the presence of manufacturing processes at the micro scale.Examples include predicting the final configuration of parts created through thermal and various etching steps.Development of analysis techniques and the implementation of element and constitutive theories for the design of biomechanical devices. Specifically, the investigation of the interaction between mechanical and biological systems via numerical methods.Constitutive model development for biological materials. Specifically, the numerical development, investigation, and modeling of artery walls, bulk tissues, and combined systems such as the liver and prostate glands.Development of large deformation inverse finite element technology. The developed techniques can be used to predict the initial configuration of a system required to produce a known end state. Theoretical interests include investigation of uniqueness and stability conditions. Applied interests include dimensional metrology, manufacturing processes, and shape optimization. The development of numerical algorithms for mathematical and numerical homogenization of composite systems.
