As a lawyer and articling student, Eric's primary focus is on taxation law. With his background in accounting and finance, Eric has worked on corporate transactions and transfer pricing submissions that require strong knowledge of financial instruments and capital markets. Eric has advised clients in Canadian income tax law relevant to the investment funds and asset management industry, including the establishment of investment funds, taxation of derivatives, cross border fund structures, and unit and mutual fund trust qualification. He has developed and implemented tax planning strategies and corporate reorganizations for owner managers and high net worth individuals. Eric has advised and represented clients in tax disputes at various stages with Canada Revenue Agency and drafted notice of appeals to the Tax Court of Canada. Furthermore, Eric has worked on several issues relating to cross border investments, debt and capital restructurings, withholding tax, determination of residency, excise tax, and charities and not for profits.Eric has published several articles on a range of tax issues and has been invited to speak at seminars.Eric obtained his Certified Public Accountant designation in New Jersey. Prior to his legal career, Eric worked as a financial auditor, risk management and accounting policy implementation specialist for several years in the financial services industry in the United States, Canada and Singapore. He primarily worked on complex financial instruments and the implementation of regulatory and accounting requirements. Eric helped clients comply with financial accounting rules, evaluated the financial statement and operational impact of accounting rules relating to derivatives and other complex financial instruments and developed business process improvements. As a risk management specialist, Eric assessed the operational risk of various disparate business departments and developed solutions to identified problems.
