Responsible for the perimeter network defense for the U.S. Army Europe (USAREUR) and United States AFRICA Command (USAFRICOM) enterprise networks.  Configures and manages Bluecoat Proxy Servers, Cisco Adaptive Security Appliances (ASA) and Juniper Netscreen perimeter and internal firewalls, McAfee Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) sensors, Pulse Secure, and Cisco ASA remote access VPN gateways, and F5 BigIP load balancers. Routinely participates in high-level troubleshooting using industry-standard tools such as TCPdump, Wireshark, and log analysis tools such as ArcSight Logger and Splunk. Supported RCC-E migration to the Joint Regional Security Stack (JRSS). JRSS is being deployed worldwide as the standard perimeter network stack for Army, Air Force, and Navy in a multi-tenant environment.  Operates JRSS tenant configuration and performs in-depth troubleshooting and log analysis support within the JRSS architecture.  Performs device and configuration management in accordance with DOD standard IA best practices leveraging such guidelines as the PPSM CAL and DISA Security Implementation Guides (STIGs) and Security Requirements Guides (SRGs).

Member of the Joint Communications Support Element (JCSE) Joint Network Operations Center (JNOC). The JCSE, in partnership with DISA, established the Defense Information Systems Network Tactical Edge (DISN-TE) to integrate, manage, and control a wide variety of communications interfaces between the (DISN) and deployed tactical satellite communications assets. The DISN-TE is a telecommunications collection and distribution point that provides deployed Warfighters with multi-band, multimedia, and worldwide reach back to the DISN. Remote users will access pre-positioned DISN services at strategically located DISN-TE sites. These services consist of Defense Switched Network (DSN), NIPRNet, SIPRNet, JWICS, VTC, Commercial Internet, and Commercial voice services. The JNOC is the technical focal point for mission provisioning, activation, tracking, and troubleshooting for worldwide JCSE DISN-TE assets and customers. Duties include support for iDirect based satellite communication networks, technical support for a wide range of military and commercial satellite communications terminals, and technical support for a variety of mobile/deployable data package/kits. JNOC Engineers are responsible for the configuration, management, monitoring, and troubleshooting for the DISN-TE network architecture responsible for service delivery to remote users accessing each of the DISN-TE network stacks. These duties include responsibility for the DISN-TE perimeter security components consisting of Cisco ASA firewalls and Bluecoat ProxySG proxy servers. Other equipment supported includes HAIPE Inline Network Encryptors, Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM), and Call Manager Express (CME), VX/SHOUT VoIP gateways, Cisco Routers, Cisco Catalyst Switches, Cisco Nexus Switches, Cisco UCS, Riverbed, VMware vSphere 5, VMware Horizon View and support for a variety of industry standard technologies including, RIPv2, EIGRP, BGP, IPSEC, VPNs, ACLs etc.

Member of the Joint Network Operations Control Center Afghanistan (JNCC-A) Information Assurance and Computer Network Defense Firewall/Proxy Server Engineering team responsible for the engineering, deployment, configuration management, and troubleshooting of all U.S. Army Afghanistan Strategic firewalls and proxy servers. This includes well over 100 Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance firewalls and over 30 Bluecoat ProxySG proxy servers. Core duties include the configuration, deployment and management of Bluecoat Proxy Servers which provide internet access, content filtering, and record keeping for thousands of users within our area of responsibility. Responsibilities also include the initial configuration, installation support and management of perimeter firewalls providing network security services for all major strategic installations within Afghanistan. Management of these devices includes reviewing, validating, and executing firewall modification requests from users within our area of responsibility and external to it. Management of firewall and proxy server security policy is in accordance with DOD standard IA practices leveraging such guidelines as the PPSM CAL and DISA Security Implementation Guides (STIGs). As a key engineering staff member in an organization with overarching responsibility for network operations within the entire Afghan AOR I am exposed to a constant flow of experiences, challenges, and information that come with the real time management of a rapidly changing wartime network infrastructure.

Member of the Regional Network Operations Control Center (RNCC) CJ6 engineering team responsible for engineering, deployment, configuration management, and troubleshooting for network and communications assets, spanning a broad geographical area. Core duties include configuration, deployment and management of a series of Bluecoat Proxy Servers which provide internet access, content filtering, and record keeping for thousands of users within our area of responsibility. Responsibilities also include the initial configuration, installation support and management of perimeter firewalls providing network security services for 5 major installations within our area of responsibility. Management of these devices includes reviewing, validating, and executing firewall modification requests from users within our area of responsibility and external to it. Responsible for the installation, maintanence, configuration control and monitoring of a Local Area Network consisting of 3 autonomous networks each containing 75 layer 2 and layer 3 switches. Duties of this role provide the opportunity to assist in all manner of network/systems/communications projects and a broad range of technical experiences that come with working within this environment. Duties provide insight into theater communications architecture and practices on a high level. As an integral organization responsible for development, management, and troubleshooting for the communications architecture of a major regional area, duties afford me the opportunity to be familiar with and have a working relationship with other organizations that share the responsibilities of managing critical communications within Afghanistan. Sole technician responsible for the Systems Administration, Network Administration, and Satellite Communications terminal operation and maintenance for an AMC Logistics Task Force equipment fielding operation providing services for 15 to 20 users. Responsible for the systems which provides the customer’s only connectivity the GIG. Provide NIPR, SIPR, Voice, VTC, and Exchange services as well as desktop and general IT support. Manage the switched and routed networks which provide IP connectivity to the site. Install, configure, administer, maintain, and support Windows-based LAN infrastructure. Install and manage LAN/WAN hardware and software, including Cisco 3560, 3750 switches, and Cisco 2800, 3800 routers. Create and administer user accounts, e-mail connectivity, access and rights, in a Windows Server/Active Directory Domain environment.. Conduct and analyze vulnerability scans using the Retina Network Security Scanner. Install and maintain VOIP services to include Cisco IP phones and Cisco Call Manager configurations. Responsible for the setup, operation and maintenance of a state of the art TDMA satellite communications system consisting of TDMA modem, Uninterrupted Power Source (UPS), Block Upconverter/HPA (BUC), Low Noise Block (LNB), Riverbed WAN Optimizer/Accelerator, Router, Switches, and power generation equipment.

Responsible for the configuration, monitoring, and anomaly resolution for the network resources of the Camp Arifjan Regional Hub Node. The concept of operations is to facilitate the connection of multiple geographically remote users to Defense Information Systems Network (DISN) network services to include, SIPRNET, NIPRNET, CENTRIX, JWICS, DSN, DRSN, VoIP, VoSIP, and VTC. The connections are made via TDMA and FDMA satellite WAN links to each user. Duties include the management of several independent routed and switch networks. Site network assets include 22 Routers, 2 multilayer switches, 18 layer 2 switches, 15 Cisco ASA Firewalls, 10 Cisco Call Managers, a variety of Servers, and various pieces of auxiliary and support equipment.

Work with Circuit Actions lead to coordinate the planning, installation, maintenance, and associated documentation and correspondence for all circuits that traverse a major DOD satellite communications complex. Coordinate with outside organizations in the planning and placement of potential circuits. Work hand in hand with associated local and remote communications facilities to install new circuits. Generate and/or process documentation to include Telecommunications Service Requests, Telecommunications Service Orders, and Completion Reports all adhering to current DOD and DISA Standards. Develop and maintain circuit history files, which include TSOs, Testing and Acceptance, Outage History, and detailed circuit topology diagrams used by site operators as a primary reference for circuit information.

Part of a team responsible for the operational standup of a newly installed DOD satellite communications gateway/teleport facility. Managed implementation of existing DOD operational procedures as well as developing original procedures organic to the facility. Facility development culminated in the facility being granted DISA certification and officially declared operational. In addition to integrating X-Band/DSCS equipment standard to a facility of this type, facility is the first operational site for a recently fielded military satellite communications network concept, the Regional Hub Node system. The Regional Hub Node system utilizes both Time Division Multiple Access and Frequency Division Multiple Access technologies and at time of installation will ride over Ku-Band frequencies. The overall concept of duties at the operational facility is to provide DISN services to geographically disperse tactical distant ends. These services include, SIPRNET, NIPRNET, DSN, DRSN, and VTC.

Operational J6 staff member for the United States Strategic Command Joint Fuctional Command Component for Integraded Missile Defense. Duties include overall operational control, situational awareness, fault isolations, tracking, trending, and coordination for the organizations, hardware, software and associated systems for the Command, Control, Communications, and Computer assets of the Ballistic Missile Defense System Communications Network. Work hand in hand with military personnel from the U.S. Army, Navy, Marine Corp, and Air Force.

Work with one of the Department of Defenses latest solution for mobile satellite communications utilizing (COTS) commercial of the shelf equipment. Act as liaison between manufacturer of Ku-Band VSAT satellite communications terminals, specific equipment vendors, commercial satellite coverage providers, and the military customers and operators. Work alone or in small teams to provide technical expertise, training, maintenance, repair, and all aspects of operational support to the military customer. Experience in technical areas to include FDMA (Frequency Division Multiple Access) and TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) network topologies, current industry solutions for mobile High Power Amplifiers, Antenna Control Units, TDMA/FDMA Modems, Environmental Control Units, Fiber Optic Connectivity Devices, and Power Generation Solutions.

Supervised a 4 member team in multiple deployments of a Department of Defense mobile satellite communications terminal. Was accountable and responsible for the operation and maintenance of over $2 million worth of satellite communications equipment. Responsible for the aligning troubleshooting, and maintenance of low rate multiplexers, tactical satellite signal processors, group modems, digital data modems, frequency converters, high voltage power supplies, high power amplifiers, fault alarm monitor units, 8ft x-band antennas, and 16ft light weight high gain x-band antennas. Gained valuable experience with spectrum analyzers, power meters, oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, and signal generators. Familiar with the use ofmilitary communications cryptographic keys and equipment.

Part of a team responsible for monitoring, managing data base systems, alert/distress notification, and customer service interactions relating to the Blue Force Tracking system and Blue Force Tracking devices. Acted as a liaison between customers and sensitive intelligence satellite systems management personnel. Worked closely with multiple government and civilian agencies associated with the Blue Force Tracking system. Acquired a familiarity with several Common Operational Picture (COP) rendering systems, such as GCCS, Briteview, C2PC and Falconview.
