My position here was an IT Consultant responsible for developing the web site using the Joomla! content management system to enhance the functions to support the business, payroll software written in VB and any other IT support or solutions for the business.

Responsible for development, implementation and support of web applications for a major freight forwarder written using several technologies including Java, HTML, JSP, XML, XSLT and JavaScript. These multilingual web applications are used Europe wide by thousands of users on a daily basis to provide services such as order entry, tracking, scheduling and performance management. I work in a multidisciplinary team that has had a long standing relationship with the customer and the software package that they use. On a daily basis, I work with the customer and other team members to maintain existing projects and develop new functionality.

Here I worked as a lead developer providing eCommerce solutions designing, writing and implementing web programs for the freight forwarding industry. My role involved contact with the customer IT teams to determine development requirements and to deal with support issues. I often worked with the customers' other IT suppliers to develop interfaces between their many systems which were widespread throughout Europe.

I started here as a trainee programmer writing IBM mainframe solutions for the freight forwarding industry. As I had experience of web development from my MSc, I became involved with the first of many web projects for my customer and became the lead developer for eServices for my customer.Work included enabling existing mainframe functions on the IBM I as online services, fully translatable into various European languages. It was very important for the customer to show an online presence at a time when eCommerce was starting to become a key factor in the business world.Our team won awards for the best supplier of IT for our customer for some of the services provided and the software was described as 'World Class' by the customer at the time.Projects included :- Online Order Entry - Information of Delivery Entry- Online Pricing- Order TrackingAt first, the technologies used were HTML and Javascript with CGI programs written in RPG, running on IBM I/NET server on the IBM I. These were later changed to run on the IBM HTTP Server on the IBM I.Later programs were developed using Java, JSP, XML, XSLT and emerging technologies of the time, which included Apache Tomcat and IBM WebSphere Server.
