Responsible for devising and implementing marketing, sales, and publicity strategies to increase impact, visibility, and sales at the University of Nevada Press. I analyzed markets and identified the proper audiences to market publications for sales and working directly with sales reps, wholesalers, local outlets, librarians, authors, and relevant stakeholders to develop and maintain successful partnerships. Wrote copy and press releases, maintained metadata, designed ads, attended conferences, conducted sales calls, and oversaw the Press’s digital presence, including the website and social media. I served a critical role in generating revenues and sustaining the press budget.

Guide Book Publishing is the premier publisher of directories and guidebooks for congregations and nonprofit organizations across 28 states. In business since 1991, they currently publish and print directories for 66 congregations across the Chicago metro area, printing over 115,000 books. As Account Executive, I contacted and engaged local businesses and explained the benefits of advertising in annual directories for each congregation. I cultivated relationships with local business owners across the Northern Illinois region, and assisted them to place their ads in our directories.

Wicker Park Press Ltd was an independent publishing company that specialized in high-quality fiction, poetry, history, Midwest regional, and cultural studies. The books we produced were author-centered. I am very proud of the books we produced, and I am using the experience I gained from the enterprise to help others with publishing.

For NIU Press, as the sole person in the Marketing Department, I chaperoned new titles and authors from the time they were launched to publication by developing customized marketing and publicity plans for each book. I worked with authors and outside sales reps and agents internationally to maximize exposure for each new book and its intended audience. I wrote catalog and ad copy, press releases, and coordinated sales and promotional efforts for 15 new books a year, and for over 600 active backlist titles.

I tracked down the rights to these books and published them with Academy Chicago. The story is that no one knew they were still in the public domain. Biggers, who published the first Chan book in the mid-1920s, died in 1933. His wife renewed the copyright in the 1950s. A media company called 4 Kids had the license to the character of Charlie Chan, and 20th Century Fox controlled the copyrights, and we were able to get them to sign off to publish the books. They have sold widely.
