Ground Fluid Systems Engineer Ii
Responsible Engineer (RE) of the RP-1 and Thrust Vector Control (TVC) system on Firefly's Medium Launch Vehicle (MLV) engine test stand, Test Stand 5. This project began as a clean sheet design with a blank P&ID, BOM, and a bare piece of land. As the RE, I was responsible for the following:-Conducted fluid calculations for compressible and non-compressible fluids-Developed fluid models in various software (Excel, Python, GFSSP) to simulate fluid delivery to the Miranda engine and Test Stand 5-Sourced, quoted, and purchased hardware for all fluids systems (RP-1, LOx, LN2, GN2, water, and TEA-TEB)-Created executable work instructions and weld drawings to build the test stand-Installed hardware (piping, valves, regulators, and tanks) during the build -Operated machinery such as sky tracks, scissor lifts, man basket to assist in build-Advised test engineers and operators on the commissioning process of multiple fluid systems-Maintained the health of the test stand during multiple engine development campaignsLaunch Pad UpgradesAt Firefly's SLC-2 Pad in Vandenberg Space Force Base, I helped prepare all fluid systems for Firefly's third mission, VICTUS NOX. Some responsibilities included: - Upgraded helium system with a new gas intensifier - Conducted maintenance on all fluid systems on the pad- Preformed System Integrity Test (SIT) on fluid systems- Participated in launch vehicle integration onto the launch padCurrent Projects-TVC check out cart for MLV-Wallops launch pad, 0A, upgrades to accommodate MLVIntern MentorI've mentored all 7 interns assigned to Firefly's FGSE (Fluids GSE) team. It's been a pleasure to see their progress and growth, and I've enjoyed guiding new and upcoming engineering students through the difficulties of project management and making engineering decisions. My favorite aspect is guiding young engineers to become "do-ers" as I strongly believe in a hands-on approach and not being stuck with "paralysis by analysis."
Mentor
Guided and advised a student lead competition rocket team. Having lead and being part of this exact team for 2 years, passed down any and all knowledge of High Power Rocketry so that the team can be as successful as it can. I worked most with the Project Manager and Lead Engineer to aid in systems engineering and manufacturing techniques.
Mechanical Engineer I
ProjectsLunar Lander Propulsion Qualification Test Stand (VTS) - Designed, fabricated, integrated and tested Nova-C propulsion test stand (Meth/LOx)-Designed fluid systems to support engine-level test objectives-Operated and modified test stand fluid systems, along with electrical systems that interface with fluid and structures-Trouble shot, diagnosed, and rebuilt/replaced instrumentation and hardware such as valves, pressure transducers, thermocouples, valves, regulators, and flow metersLunar Lander Propulsion system Design - Designed, Fabricated, mocked up plumbing system for Nova-C lander- Designed and tracked plumbing on vehicle to increase manufacturability- Assembled pathfinder for propulsion plumbing, creating drawings, and manufacturing orders such as weld maps for orbital welding components together-Bridged the gap between designing and manufacturing to allow for more efficient lead/turn around timesLunar Hopper AI&T - Designed GSE, Wrote Procedures, and Planned assembly of Micro-Nova(Hopper)-Designed GSE such as Assembly Stand, Center of Gravity Measurement Stand, and Vehicle shipping frame-Created procedures to assemble the spacecraft
Mechanical Engineer Intern
Here at Fruition, my goal is to make ideas into reality. I utilized my engineering knowledge from my studies and applied them to solve problems presented by clients. My role as a mechanical engineering intern was to rapidly prototype ideas, providing a proof of concept that is efficient and useful. I conducted test and experiments using different technologies to help identify the variety of uses they may have in unexpected areas. I worked closely with other engineers of different disciplines to help identify and achieve the goal of the project we are working on.
Lead Engineer
I lead a team of fellow students to engineer, build and fabricate a 10,000 ft Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) rocket for the Spaceport America Cup in 2020. I guided my team in the research, design, fabrication, and testing of their particular sub system. The sub systems included are Propulsion, Structures, Avionics, Recovery and Analysis. Planned, conducted, and learned about laboratory materials experiments, rapid prototyping, and integrated subsystem tests were some of the roles most exciting aspects. This role helped me learn first hand the importance of project and time management, and training of team members to help everyone achieve their goals. I also lead the Student Research And Development (SRAD) subteam, in which we develop technologies and processes to further the advancement of the University in aerospace type capabilities. My team was involved in also developing 2 scientific payloads to be integrated into Booker T. Washington's rockets to go 1 mile and the edge of space.
General Manager
My time here at The Chocolate Bar was used in every area from the front to back of house to upper management. I started here as a regular front staff employee in 2013. My duties were to help clientele in a quick and friendly manner, regularly clean the sales floor along with prep area, accept payment and report low inventory to the supervisor. Only 6 months later I was promoted to supervisor and now I was in charge in the staff every night I worked. I now reported low supplies, ingredients, handled customer relations. I attended weekly meeting with the General Manager and fellow supervisors to help identify problems and solutions. After 2 years of being a supervisor, there was a position open to Co-Manage taking over the responsibilities of General Manager which I was awarded. After 1.5 years of Co-Managing I became the sole General Manager. I handled every aspect of the business. I was next to the employees scooping ice cream with them, using Alliance Payroll services to ensure on-time paychecks, interviewing/hiring new candidates, communicating with the other location to ensure full inventories at all times, along with having meeting with the company president and investor.
Intern
At APL PowerSports I was in incharge of vehicle safety and maintaining low engine induction temperature. I was working on "The Worlds Fastest Honda" which belongs to Al Lamb. I started in his Honda dealership workshop helping with assembly of the aerodynamic body for the heavy modified CBR1000RR Honda motorcycle he rode. Daily maintenance of the workshop consisted of cleaning and organizing tools and engine components. While at the Bonneville on the Salt Lake Flats, I conducted vehicle safety checks between runs that the vehicle regularly achieved over 200 mph. I also had to ensure the water to air intercooler was at the proper temperature before each record breaking attempt. I did this by creating a small ice water recirculator from parts laying around the shop.
