On a global scale, Amsted Rail produces castings, wheels, axles, bearings, springs, brakes and end-of-car products. In September 2012, also assumed an additional management role for Europe becoming responsible for Amsted Rail’s strategic development of the market. While working for Amsted Rail, supported the interests of The Greenbrier Companies, Inc., as it explored investment opportunities in the Eurasian market. A global partner to Amsted Rail, Greenbrier is a leading international supplier of equipment and services to freight rail transportation markets, including the production of freight rail cars in North America, South America and Europe.

Kyiv, Ukraine

Directed Altarum’s strategic development of the Ukrainian Land and Resource Management Center (ULRMC) $11 million project in Kyiv, sponsored in part by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). A non-profit-oriented, U.S./Ukrainian joint association, ULRMC applies digital mapping, remote sensing and GIS technologies to ecological, natural resources, energy, emergency planning, and land management issues at the national and local levels. In addition to daily Chief of Party functions, coordinated successful financial and programmatic audits of the USAID-supported program. Also served as a Member of the Board of Directors, President and Chief Financial Officer.

In addition to part-time representational activities on behalf of OPIC, provided representational, project development, market-entry strategy, financial counseling and risk mitigation services to several western companies considering investment in Russia, the CIS and throughout Central Europe. Clients included Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Corporation for Russian-American Enterprise, Manalytics International, Sea-Land Service Inc., Triangle Environmental Inc., and United Technologies Corporation.Also, for a brief period after completing my MBA and before leaving Washington, D.C., for a second time to work in the CIS, served as Senior Program Officer for the Private Sector at the Eurasia Foundation in Washington, D.C.

Immediately after undergraduate college, managed OPIC investment promotion activities, eventually focusing on Central Europe and the CIS. Created and implemented OPIC’s fee-based advisory services program for U.S. clients, including the preparation and dissemination of Investor Information Service (IIS) country information kits and the Opportunity Bank joint venture partner matching service. Interacted closely with representatives of private American companies and lending institutions, as well as the U.S. government, including the Departments of State and Commerce, EximBank, TDA and USAID, to design initiatives intended to improve commercial, economic and political ties between U.S. and Central Europe/CIS countries. Monitored the execution of a $5.1 million CIS investment promotion program. Represented OPIC domestically and internationally at conferences and seminars, as well as on official U.S. government delegations involving senior-level American company executives.In March 1994, moved to Moscow, Russia, to serve as the first, official OPIC Representative to the CIS, based out of the U.S. Embassy Moscow. Through counseling of U. S. companies on OPIC programs, identified and developed projects for OPIC’s finance and political risk insurance pipelines in various industries, including defense conversion, manufacturing, mining, oil & gas, and telecommunications. Provided OPIC advocacy services in support of U.S. private sector investment projects. Interacted with official representatives of CIS host countries concerning the attraction of private American capital. Consulted with representatives of the EBRD, International Finance Corporation (IFC), and other bilateral and multilateral organizations concerning investments throughout the CIS.
