National STEM Honor Society (NSTEM) is focused on K-12 and college students’ specific talents. NSTEM inspires future leaders of our increasingly technology-driven world by nurturing STEM education and innovation through project-based learning, leadership development, and mutually beneficial collaboration among students, schools, communities, and businesses. I founded Seaside Sustainability, Inc. and have transformed the concept into a local, regional and national organization. Seaside Sustainability is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization looking to increase sustainability and environmental awareness through a variety of educational and project-based initiatives. These initiatives include partnerships at a local, regional, and national level to help inspire individual and community involvement. GCCC aims to keep the city beautiful by: organizing and directing volunteer efforts, keeping the Mayor and appropriate city departments informed of the maintenance and beautification needs of public property; working with all city departments, including the Department of Public Works; the Department of Parks and Recreation; the School Department; the Conservation Commission and the Waterways Board.

A citizen group aimed to launch town-wide sustainability initiatives including energy efficiency programs, community engagement, green product and services fairs, and programs for the creation and dissemination of opportunities for home-owners to access residential energy management and sustainable living programs. The principle goal of the group is to create a carbon neutral city by 2025.

A town commission whose work focuses on projects designed to manage and promote environmental issues that that affect local waterways, and habitats including: maintaining and improving water cleanliness and quality, preserve coastal waterways and habitats, develop corrective measures for environmental issues. The organization incorporates public participation and education into its vision and strategies.

Develop responsible individuals, productive organizations and sustainable communities by providing the tools necessary to challenge themselves to grow by overcoming perceived limitations in a safe environment to encourage growth. Facilitate experiential learning for youth, college and professional groups, including risk taking, team development, leadership skills, and diversity awareness/training.

Spearheaded program which won coveted federal ED Department Green Ribbon Award as well as more than 60 other awards. Designed state, regional and national award-winning Environmental Education program; developed an implementation guide for other schools to develop their own programs. Trained over 300 students, educators and administrators in the Green Team and Scholars Models in 75 school systems, organizations, and townships on sustainable best practices. Designed and implemented district-wide edible schoolyard garden project with raised beds and greenhouses (combined area of 1950 sq./ft.); yields are used in school kitchens served to staff and students. Spearheaded K-12 green movement in district with Nutrition and Facilities Departments resulting in their full dedication to sustainability. Developed and instituted district-wide solid waste reduction strategies, considerably reducing waste up to 75% while saving as much as $12,000 annually. Completed extensive feasibility studies for campus solar and wind power projects. Teach comprehensive 21st century course combining environment, project management and leadership skills. Collaborate with over 30 local and statewide organizations for projects (e.g. plastic bag elimination, assessment of town buildings for fossil fuel consumption, ecosystem preservation, and renewable energy). Attend conferences with several collaborators and official partners e.g., MassDEP, MassRecycle, GreenSchools, Alliance for Climate Education, Green Ribbon Schools, the Department of Environmental Resources (DOER), and the US Green Building Council. Written and managed over $80,000 in grant funding for initiatives in solar power, indoor and outdoor food growing systems (hydroponics and aquaponics), recycling, and compost collection. Responsible for the “School Yard Sale,” where decommissioned school was dismantled and sold; 95% of the contents of the facility found new homes.

Coached school-based sports to different ages and levels (K-12): field hockey, Ultimate Frisbee, downhill skiing, and rock climbing. Manage two field hockey summer leagues. Lead three week-long summer trips to each of Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) and Maine Institute (GOMI) for trail work and environmental education programs. Lead month long backpacking expedition to Ecuador with 18 students.

Facilitated experiential learning programs with students in grades 6-12. Developed inclusive and comprehensive two-year Health curriculum based on intrinsic and extrinsic values. Implemented new individualized PE curriculum for middle and high school students with a 97% approval rate. Designed comprehensive middle school Project Adventure curriculum spiraled from K-5 educating more than 1200 students. Designed, developed and taught Spanish language courses, grades K-8 1998--2013 & high school levels I-IV.

Group of committed citizens implementing a myriad of waste reduction efforts including town-wide plastic bag ban (third in state),town-wide curbside composting program with 50% and growing participation, curbside waste every other week pickup, curbside single stream recycling every week. All initiatives save $60,000 annually.

MEES is dedicated to the preservation, improvement, and promotion of environmental education in the state and region. MEES provides tools for environmental educators, including an annual conference in March, the MEES Observer newsletter and web-site.

NSSP provides participating North Shore schools, universities, businesses, and community organizations with a forum for collaboration in an effort to advance sustainability education and practices through adventure group process and the experiential education model. The partnership aims to promote best sustainable practices, thus advancing initiatives in sustainability education and sustainability operations. The scope of work in each participating member is enhanced by collaboration with other schools and businesses, and engagement with their extended communities.

Committee charged with developing and instituting plan to become a Department of Energy Resources (DOER) designated Green Community. Worked in partnership with the Town of Manchester town Administrator, consultants, and contractors to implement 15+ energy conservation projects.

Advised Massachusetts Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs; Coordinated communications for members, working groups and stakeholders from Massachusetts Environmental Education Society (MEES), New England Environmental Education Alliance (NEEEA), and North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE). Assisted in SAGEEE’s development of an Environmental Literacy Plan (ELP) which identifies key attributes and targets for young people who will make up an environmentally literate citizenry.

The Green Schools Conference & Expo brings together green schools thought leaders and champions, including educators, school administrators, nonprofit and corporate partners, and elected officials, to advance the shared vision of green schools for all within this generation. GSNN works with thought leaders to gather, synthesize, generate, and report evidence-based resources that include practical tools, news, and commentary for the green, healthy, and sustainable schools community. We provide a COMMUNITY for implementation. GSNN’s members collaborate with each other and with other partners to share best practices, advance research, and develop strategies that can ensure that all children graduate as thoughtful and mindful citizens for the future.

Owned and operated successful contracting company that built, restored, repaired and painted tennis and basketball courts, running tracks, and play areas; managed 10+ employees and major equipment. Contracts included the private and public sector, with annual operating budget of over $500K.
