Strategic Lead, Canadian Epigenetics, Environment and Health Research Consortium (CEEHRC).The overall goal of this pan-Canadian initiative is to position Canada for the rapid translation of epigenetic discoveries into diagnostic procedures and the eventual development of new therapeutics that can improve human health. By supporting and applying epigenetics research on a national scale, CEEHRC is harnessing its great potential for major breakthroughs in understanding the origins of health and also the etiology, treatment and prevention of many of the chronic diseases currently affecting the Canadian population.

The Regenerative Medicine and Nanomedicine Initiative (RMNI) supported the development of new and emerging areas of integrative research that spanned the mandate of CIHR, its funding partners, and other stakeholders. Funding opportunities provided support for nanomedicine (nanotechnology applied to health), stem cells, gene and cell-based therapies, tissue engineering, rehabilitation sciences, and related social, ethical, environmental, economic, and legal issues.

The International Human Epigenome Consortium (IHEC) is a global consortium with the primary goal of providing free access to high-resolution reference human epigenome maps for normal and disease cell types to the research community. The epigenome reference maps will be of great utility in basic and applied research. They are likely to have an immediate impact on the understanding of many diseases, and will hopefully lead to the discovery of new means to treat or manage them.
