About Eric Mckinney
I'm a computer engineering student at UMD who likes to keep busy and help others. I'm always trying to learn and understand new things. Check out my GitHub at https://github.com/Eric-McKinney. Some of my projects are also descibed below. In my time at UMD there has yet to be a semester where I took it easy because I want to get the most out of my college education. In the same vein, I approach every class with the intent to learn the content as opposed to getting a good grade. Despite this, or rather, because of it I have consistently made the dean's list every semester. I intend to continue to grow in both my academic and professional endeavors to ensure my future success. I am not complacent with my achievements because I strive to achieve even more in the future. Undergraduate Teaching Assistant
In spring semester 2024 I worked as an undergraduate TA for UMD's introduction to computer systems course which covers C, assembly, and various Unix utilities. Notably, the course serves as an introduction to Linux and the command line. My responsibilities were to lead a discussion section which met twice a week for 50 minutes for about 35 students, hold 3 office hours a week, and grade projects and exams. I chose to TA because I like to help others and share what I've learned, but also because it was a valuable opportunity to develop my soft skills like communication and time management. As an unexpected consequence, my understanding of the course content was deepened considerably.
