While I have a lifelong passion for math and engineering, my career started in the Army, first as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division then as a crew chief and door gunner on Blackhawk helicopters. While in service, I married Robin, and we started our family. When I returned to civilian life, I earned my license as a journeyman tool-and-die maker before becoming a mechanical engineer for the last 25 years – leading teams and large projects along the way. Throughout my career, my faith has led me to serve our youth as well, teaching Sunday school and serving as an advisor on numerous medical mission trips. In 2000, I led an eye team to Dessalines, Haiti, joining Dr. Dave Bejot to do our part to alleviate suffering there. Together, we founded DEXA in 2011 to help Haitians with medical, educational and structural needs for daily living. Robin and I have two adult children and three grandchildren, for whom I nurture a love for memorizing arithmetic tables and building their problem-solving skills.
