In October of 2022, I began work as a survivor advocate at Freedom's Rest, a domestic and sexual violence shelter. Working as a survivor advocate has taught me to work with urgency and importance, as one of my chief responsibilities is to take and process calls on the shelter's emergency hotline. It is imperative to properly assess these calls as the callers' safety and well-being may depend on it. Working as a survivor advocate has also taught me to treat each situation with the proper care and consideration, as I was trained to provide trauma-informed care to clients who have very different needs and experiences. I perform a wide variety of duties as a survivor advocate: I assemble and repair furniture to be used by the shelter and its thrift stores. I clean, sanitize, and prepare rooms to be occupied by new clients. I manage the shelter's food stores by delivering donated food, stocking the client kitchen and pantry, and disposing of expired and recalled food items. I paint the interior of the shelter when renovations are needed. I tend the shelter's garden by planting and nurturing a variety of floras. I clean and organize the shelter's laundry. I distribute supplies and medication to clients upon request. I have one-on-one meetings with clients to admit them into the shelter and to assess their individual needs and goals in achieving independence. I provide clients with referrals and information on local and online resources such as housing, nutritional, and transportation assistance. I document all contact I have with clients and all tasks I do in a specialized advocacy software. I create and update spreadsheets for keeping track of shelter statistics and information sheets for referral of clients.

In August of 2021, I transferred from my position as a library assistant at the Clever Community Branch Library to the position of outreach delivery assistant in the outreach department at the Ozark Community Branch Library. Working as an outreach delivery assistant taught me how to work independently and be self-motivated and timely, as I made most of my deliveries unsupervised and for hours at a time, requiring me to plan my work day in order to successfully perform all my duties. It also taught me to be organized, consistent, and thorough, as I was responsible for recording and entering a variety of statistical data such as when, where, and to who library materials and donated books were distributed, the sensitive personal information of library patrons, requests made by library patrons, and the results of community outreach events. I performed a wide variety of duties as an outreach delivery assistant. I helped plan and attended community outreach events in which I had direct contact with the public and provided information, goods, and services relevant to the Christian County Library. I delivered library materials and donated books to assisted living facilities, public schools, community centers, local businesses, and clinics and had direct contact with library patrons and members of the public who have special needs such as large print materials or audio books for the vision and hearing impaired. I delivered library materials between the four community branches of the Christian County Library. I inspected all the library vehicles and kept records of my findings. As with the library assistant position, I utilized an automated library circulation system and online databases and catalogs to process, locate, and request items.

In January of 2021, I left my job as a crossing guard and began work as a library assistant at the Clever Community Branch of the Christian County Library. Working as a library assistant taught me the skills one needs to directly serve and communicate with the public, as I helped run the library circulation desk and perform all of its tasks as an intermediary between library patrons and the resources and services that the library provides. It also taught me the inner-workings of the library circulation process, such as utilizing an automated library circulation system to process items and access, edit, and create library patron accounts, and online databases and catalogs to locate and request items.

Nixa, Missouri, United States

In August of 2020, I began work as a crossing guard for the Nixa School District. Working as a crossing guard taught me to be punctual, as I had to be dependably present at my crossing during the windows of time in which pedestrian students needed to cross. It also taught me to be a self-starter, as I worked independently, without supervision or instruction. Working an outdoor position, I learned to adapt to weather conditions and complete my work despite them. I also learned to ensure the safety of myself and others by weighing immediate risks and making decisions based on them.

I graduated from Nixa High School in the spring of 2016 with a GPA of 3.7 and began attending Ozarks Technical Community College.
