About Eric Moore

Executive SummaryDr Eric Moore heads the Sensing and Separation research group in the School of Chemistry at University College Cork focused on bioanalytical and chemical sensors. The group currently comprises of 8 PhD and 3 Postdoctoral Fellows. Since 2006, Dr Moore has been awarded > €5M as Principal Investigator on 50 projects funded from EU, Irish and US Government and Industrial sources. Research Activities Dr Moore's main research interests focus on integration of multi-parameter sensors (micro and/or nano scale) and the development of “lab on chip” platform systems with high sensitivity and specificity, are modular in nature, can be easily tailored and adapted for multiple applications. He heads a muliti-disciplinary team of researchers whose principle research activities are focused on developing integrated bio/sensor platforms, separation techniques, surface attachment chemistry, electrochemical analysis and micro-fluidics. He has been successful with research funding awards from a range of funding sources, and his students have received international awards (18) in recognition of their research since 2010. His research is very applied and has significant engagement and collaboration with industry.Teaching Programme Director for taught postgraduate courses in Analytical Chemistry with a very strong industry led teaching agenda in place. Contribute to undergraduate teaching in the School of Chemistry BSc programmes (Chemistry, Forensics, Environmental). Heavily involved in outreach activities (Smart Future & STEPS, Science Ambassador and Discovery Science). Industry Engagement Dr Moore chairs an Industry Advisory Board. This provides crucial industry feedback on both the teaching strategy and practice for the taught postgraduate course in Analytical Chemistry. Professional Associations Royal Society of Chemistry MRSC (Board member of Analytical Division of Ireland) EPoSS (Member of Board of Directors and Co-chair of the WG on Applied MNBS)
