I have gained valuable experience working as a networking technician and student programmer at Centre College. Through this job, I work to fix and maintain scripts as well as handling new projects related with backing up systems, account management, and network management. In particular, the first project I worked on was creating a scheduler system using Powershell and a MySQL database that allows IT workers to easily automate the running of scripts. The system tracks the status and output of each script. If there is a problem with the execution, it notifies the owner of the script with an HTML email. Otherwise, it sends them any relevant output that they would like to receive. This job is extremely beneficial because it allows me to obtain experience working on real-world systems and on projects that will be used by the College even after I graduate.

For the past two years, I have been working with a Mathematics Professor and a fellow peer on a Sports Analytics research project with the goal creating a team rating system for college football and the NFL based solely on in-game statistics. The project has been extremely exciting to work on, and has given me the ability to learn more about web scraping, analyzing data, and sports analytics in general. Throughout our research, we have collected play-by-play data for over 10,000 football games and have successfully ranked every college and NFL team for each season from 2000-2015. While we continue to work to fine tune our results, this project has already allowed me to gain valuable experience in computer science and data analytics.
