Oversees technology integration challenges in both control and test racks for various systems:• Free piston controllers• Conventional IC engine controllers• Body Control and ECU HILsDesigns aspects of the entire system, including:• Power distribution• Signal conditioning• Control logic• Inverter/Motor control and simulation• Software/firmware• PCBs• LV/HV Safety

Designed PCBs with FPGAs and/or CPLDS for internal use and for use in NI products. Wrote firmware (Verilog) for PCBs for testing and product functional code. Coded LabVIEW drivers for PCBs. Performed system engineering of HIL systems for body control units (automotive). Reverse engineering of combustion engines and construction of control system for same engines.• Managed, designed, and supervised construction project, delivering HIL rack systems to 3 major automotive manufacturers and suppliers, and generating repeat business.• Performed reverse engineering operation of automotive engine from major manufacturer, designing control system for engine currently being used on production line in 5 hot test-cells, testing 100Ks of engines.• Brought 2 automotive testing products from design, to CE testing and release, opening additional markets to NI platform.

Researched and developed non-invasive monitoring system to determine infant breath and heart rate, utilizing embedded software system (Linux, C, Python with Freescale iMX53, PIC18).• Wrote software to implement algorithms (designed in MATLAB), decreasing time and increasing accuracy of infant heart and breath rate detection.• Conducted component and system level testing, ensuring product reliability.• Studied and tested materials and sensors resulting in optimal data capture from infant motions, reducing cost of components.

Developed low-cost ground based ROV to disrupt IEDs in a war zone.• Designed, implemented, and tested remote control and telemetry devices which communicated to each other and host PC with ZigBee protocol, reducing system cost, and increasing chances of passing EMC regulatory requirements and faster time to market.• Wrote host PC software in C# with .NET to use USB controller for handling, displaying telemetry with 3D graphics, producing simple user interface, and reducing training time.

Responsible for developing functional test systems for advanced electronic automotive products including Cellular phones, GPS, MOST optical bus (Media Oriented System Transport), and Bluetooth in the manufacturing or research and development environments.
