About Eric Peebles

Eric has most recently served as the Chief Executive Officer at Independent Living Center of Mobile beginning in February 2022. The chief executive is responsible for overseeing the provision of federally funded independent living services for individuals with disabilities and their families across 16 counties in the Southern tier of Alabama. As part of his civic engagement with the broader Mobile community, Peebles serves as President of the Mobile Commission of the Disabled. This organization is chartered by the City Council to advise the elected leadership on issues of critical importance to citizens and visitors with disabilities On top of these duties, Eric currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Disability Leadership Coalition of Alabama and was elected Executive Vice President in October 2017. He went on to be elected President of the organization in June 2020.In addition, Eric is also a member of the Board of Directors for Alabama Select Network, which oversees the transition of Medicaid long-term care services in Alabama to a managed care model. In his role with Alabama Select, Eric chairs the Consumer Advisory Committee (CAC). Through this position, he is the chief consumer advocate for individuals receiving Home and Community-Based Waiver Services managed by the organization throughout the state. In January 2023, Peebles was appointed by Governor Ivey to serve on the State of Alabama Rehabilitation Council. This body is responsible for oversight of Alabama’s joint state and federal vocational rehabilitation program.A graduate of the PhD program in rehabilitation at Auburn University, Eric served the Department of Special Education, Rehabilitation and Counseling in a variety of research and direct instruction roles from August 2010-18. Eric’s substantial career knowledge is backed by his own experiences. Due to oxygen deprivation during birth, he lives with spastic cerebral palsy, a trauma that has severely limited his motor skills to the point of functional quadriplegia. Fiercely independent, Eric has spent his life seeking opportunities to sustain independence and support community living for himself and others—a feat that he has realized via his variance advocacy and leadership roles.
