Our flagship initiative in this area is Accessible Alabama.Accessible Alabama engages the public, private and non-profit sectors to help Alabama communities increase accessible housing capacity to meet housing needs and to prepare for the accelerating demand as the aging population grows. Accessible Alabama seeks to build bridges between housing development stakeholders and the needs of people with disabilities, by working collaboratively through the sharing information and innovation, increasing the awareness of community needs.The programs and services offered through Accessible Alabama are supported by both project-based grants and fee-for-service contracts. Since 2013, Abilities Unlimited LLC and its predecessor—SolutionsWork, LLC—have secured more than $700,000 in contracts and grants for the Accessible Alabama initiative. Federal and state partnership awards have included grants from the Administration on Community Living through the Alabama Council on Developmental Disabilities, and funds leveraged with developer partners from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development via the Alabama Housing Finance Agency.
