Career Police Officer assigned to the Charlottesville Police Dept.’s Schools Resource Unit. I provide police services to over 4000 students, principals, staff, and visitors by building a visible and collaborative relationship to ensure a safe and productive learning environment. I am the initial response to incidents occurring on campus or involving school personnel, students, or property, gathering information for Police/School Officials as well as referral to other appropriate criminal justice or human services agencies. I make arrests, conduct investigations, review safety plans, and protect the learning environment from threats of violence or disruption. Detective assigned as primary forensic/crime scene investigator during major cases (robbery/homicide/rape) or cases of unusual occurrence, complexity, or acute political interest. Responds to death scenes/major crimes & other scenes as needed. Responsible for evaluation of the scene and assuring relevant legal processes are satisfied prior to entry. Observed, identified, documented, & collected evidence using industry appropriate methods & equipment. Conducts in-house processing of evidence as assigned. Safeguards & packages evidence for submission to laboratory for analysis. Assigns adjunct personnel to on-scene tasks, liaises with senior commanders, detectives, and other criminal justice system partners in all aspects of the investigative process. Completes, compiles, and preserves investigative and analytical reports related to crime scene investigation. Conducts training of evidence technicians on a monthly basis. Assigned as the Forensic Bureau's Fire Investigator, responsible for investigation of fires & explosions and liaison with Fire Marshals, State Police, and Federal Authorities. Additional assignment as Death Investigator responsible for review of death scene reports, conferring with medical examiners, physicians, health depts. & other government organizations to obtain records, reports, and certificates for completion of case files. Testifies and presents evidence in Courts.

Patrol Evidence Technician seconded to the Forensics Unit. Responded to crime scenes, photographed, documented, and preserved evidence at crime scenes prior to submission to State Crime Labs for analysis and subsequent testimony/presentation in Court. Completed over 1500 hours of documented training in many areas of crime scene technology to include: ballistics reconstruction, blood stain pattern analysis, fingerprint processing, and death & WMD investigations. Specialized in Fire, Explosion, and Post-blast investigations, subsequently investigating fires of undetermined/suspect origin in conjunction with local fire marshals. Assisted local, state, and federal authorities to include the FBI and BATF National Church Arson Task Force with investigation of suspect church fires. Progressively responsible positions in the unit, eventually achieving Forensic Technician status. Graduate Va Fire Marshall's Academy, (Criminal Fire Investigator's Course) 2004. Attended Va Institute of Forensic Science and Medicine Basic Course, 2006. Attended adjunct and advanced training at Va Dept. of Forensic Science, 2002-2010. Sergeant in the Field Operations Division, Patrol Bureau. Supervised up to 16 patrol officers on a daily basis. Conducted roll calls, trainings, inspections, and reviews. Reviewed and approved/return reports prior to final submission. Issued assignments and investigations for follow up by assigned officers. Liaison with counterparts in adjacent agencies/jurisdictions to ensure public safety and professional cooperation. Submitted reports to Command Staff, conducted personnel performance reviews, initial review of citizen concerns/compliments. Reported daily incidents to superiors.
