Tasks cover the following areas: Data entry, scheduling, sampler set-up in the field, whole effluent testing, sampling/analysis on-site, enforcement of local limits, tracking of violations, issuance of permits for discharge to collection system, revision of permits, trending, budgeting, purchasing, audits, inspections, FOG tracking at FSE's, SSO follow-up, and I&I quarterly reporting. Local limits evaluation sampling, analysis, and interpretation occur each quarter. Minor oversight of municipal composting facility runoff is under my office. I am the toxics management plan coordinator dealing with scheduling, sampling, and shipment of our whole effluent testing protocols. I am point person in our participation in the DMRQA Studies by EPA.

Head OperatorCity Of Lowell Jun 1987 - Jul 1988Duck Island WwtpBegan work as weekend head operator of their 20 MGD dry weather treatment plant. Storm flows could reach 100 MGD during heavy rain events. Plant was partially run by PC with remote control over certain motors, pumps, and valves. Could monitor part of collection system via PC. Screw pumps lifted wastewater to the headworks of plant. Used teacups for grit removal. Activated sludge used diffused air and plant created its own hypochlorite solution (PepCon unit) for use in its odor control system. Gravity thickeners were covered for odor control. Effluent disinfection was with chlorine gas. Belt press used to dewater sludge, using polymer and potassium permanganate. LIme addition after dewatering followed by distribution to haul-offs via an overhead belt system. Sludge taken to landfill. PC used to create daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports. Before working at this plant I had obtained my Grade 6 operations license and had been given a Grade 7 license, which was the highest available in Massachusetts. -

Became a head operator for three years and the lab chemist for two years. Expertise in conventional activated sludge process, primary treatment, solids handling, sludge dewatering process, and sludge incineration processes. Expertise in basic wastewater lab tests (BOD, COD, TSS, pH, D.O., TS, phosphorus, and TKN.). Also proficient in set-up and running of bacteriological testing. Plant was a 6.0 MGD dry weather plant, combined sewer. Proficiency in operation of DAF's, mechanical aerators, vacuum and belt presses, multiple hearth incinerator, ash handling equipment, air scrubber operation, chlorination by both gas and liquid hypochlorite, as well as a variety of pumps.
