Worked with research scientists at a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of sustainable fisheries through research and public education. Assisted in experimentation with trap-rig method for swordfish catch off the coast of Southern California to support the hypothesis that this technique was more efficient with less by-catch as current commercial swordfishing techniques. Rigged all gear for field research to be conducted at sea levels below 1000 feet where tagging studies had found greatest population of swordfish. Worked on research vessels in the California coastal waters. Assisted with aging studies for the protected giant sea bass species off the coast of California and Mexico. Performed a year-long internship in the Department of Health, Safety and Environmental (HS&E) for a pharmaceutical company with over 300 employees. Responsibilities included assistance with new employee laboratory safety training regarding safe chemical, biological and radioactive materials use and disposal. Prepared digital copies of all employees training documentation.Investigated recycling policies for disposable labware, traveled to local waste management facilities, and prepared PowerPoint presentation to laboratory personnel on recycling plastics. Researched LD-50 minnow reproduction tests with local laboratories to determine safe levels for chemical disposal into city sewage system.
