Lab includes specialized "bay style" test areas based on compressor size with individual testing equipment and a fully controlled water cooling loop. Successfully led six Root Cause Analysis teams for design & production defects of major components of the Quantima HighSpeed Compressor Motor. Projects included: low corona protection of random wound stator, excessive temperature rise of random wound motor, low strength blast weld for copper/steel motor rotor, low cycle life NRV, instantaneous failures of high strength impellers, faulty design of impeller bolt connection, and overheating of motor connection terminals. Projected savings of over $4.5 million over the next 3 years based on average defect rates of $1.5 million per year on these projects. Successfully designed and implemented a random wound stator crown forming tool which reduced stator to stator variation in volumetric cooling air flow by 95%, allowing higher efficiency of the stator and rotor. -
