DFS is DSM's Business Group that is active in the area of Food Supplements. Its main strategic goal was to be the number 1 supplier in new, innovative food supplements, particularly food enzymes, savoury ingredients (yeast and yeast extracts) and cultures.DBC was/is a Competence Center in biotechnology within DSM, employing approx. 500 scientists and technicians trained in the various disiplines in biotechnology (genetics, fermentation, process technology, biochemistry, analytical chemistry, application, food technology, ...). The DBC is made up by two formerly separate BG-R&D-organisations (DAI and DFS), and started in 2009 as a merged, new entity. Working in highly integrated (project) teams, the DBC strongly contributes to the realisation of DSM's business and innovation goals in the food/nutrition, pharma, industrial biotech and materials sectors. Approximately 50% of the DBC-organisation was allocated/dedicated to R&D-projects for its own BG, DFS. The other 50% of the resources were 'hired in' by other DSM-BG's.Responsibilities as R&D-Director: definition and execution through projects/project managers of an R&D-technology strategy for the total BG as well as its PMC (Product/Market Combination) clusters. Safeguard the R&D-technology function in the BG-Management Team. Translation of the R&D-strategy into a Competence Plan and execution of it, thereby securing access to the required key R&D-competences for the BG.As Director DBC: Management of a line R&D-organisation of approx 500 people, as the core Competence Center for biotechnology in DSM. Ensuring that output targets as agreed with business teams are met and that necessary resources are made available to the R&D-projects/programs of the various BG's within DSM. Buidling/ maintaining a strong external network ao with academic partners.
