About Eric Sapp

Working on Capitol Hill, in the church, politics, nonprofit, digital comms, and big data has taught me to look for what and who is left out. That is where the most interesting answers can be found and where the greatest opportunity exists to make an impact. Injustice and inequality are both ethical failings and market inefficiencies. We apply business solutions for social impact, and empathy-based machine learning to build better data and understanding…and to outcompete the powers and principalities that prey upon the least, last, and forgotten in our society.

Our goal is not to admire problems, however. Empathy and data are our tools for measurable and real world change. Injustice and economic inequality are both moral blights and also market inefficiencies. We're building tools and practices that shift markets and systems in more just directions, following our B Corp mission to "align what is right with what works."

  • Christian Family Games
    Co-Founder
Christian Family Games Jan 2013 - Jan 2015
ChristianFamilyGames.co Our experiment in gaming to change hearts and minds. Our first mobile game, Word Search, was the top-rated Christian game on the iStore for over a year. We learned a lot and would like to pick this back up again at a future date but just didn't have the time to keep developing on the side. So the project is shelved for now...
  • Common Good Strategies
    Senior Partner
Common Good Strategies Jul 2005 - Jun 2008
Founded in the summer of 2005, Common Good Strategies (CGS) was a political strategy firm dedicated to helping Democrats reclaim the debate on faith and values. CGS worked with Democratic elected officials, candidates, and social justice-minded non-profits to develop and implement religious outreach programs that improve relationships and understanding with the religious community. CGS work was featured in a TIME cover story and received significant national attention for its role in reshaping the way Democrats communicated and engaged in 2006 where our 7 Senate and Gubernatorial candidates all won, and outperformed national Democrats by 20 points with White Protestants and 10 points with Catholics. CGS has worked with: Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) Sen. Bob Casey Gov. Ted Strickland Sen. Sherrod Brown Michigan Democratic Party Gov. Jennifer Granholm Kansas Democratic Party Gov. Kathleen Sebelius Rep. Heath Shuler During the height of this past campaign season, CGS had eight staff working in six different states.
  • Rep. David Price
    Legislative Assistant
    Rep. David Price 2003 - 2005
Handled Homeland Security and Commerce, Justice, State Appropriations; Budget; Tax; Faith Working Group; Democratic Budget Group...and learned a lot from a great boss and staff.
  • Senator Edward Kennedy, Health, Education, Labor, Pension Committee
    Legislative Aide
Senator Edward Kennedy, Health, Education, Labor, Pension Committee May 2002 - Sep 2003
A wonderful first job. I got to see how the Senate really worked, drafted and negotiated legislation, learned the importance of lobbyists to our process. I learned from the best who expected the best, and I got to work for the Lion of the Senate. Every time I walked into his office or hideaway, it was like walking into a history book with the artifacts from his family on the walls and tables. My work on the committee focused on bio-terrorism, vaccines, and genetics, and I was there for the debate on going to war with Iraq. I got to cap my Senate experience by floor staffing the Medicare prescription drug debate, and preparing and starting a filibuster...and what I will probably remember most is when everything stopped in the middle of that hugely important bill so Senators could pause and quietly listen to Senator Byrd's annual practice of reciting his (rather long) Ode to Spring, which he wrote and read each year from the Senate floor.
