Eric Schmit joined Aegon USA Realty Advisors in 1995. Eric is a Managing Director within Commercial Mortgage Loan Origination. Eric is primarily responsible for construction-to-permanent mortgage loan originations across the southern U.S. Prior to his current role, Eric was responsible for originating permanent loans in the southeast U.S., and at different points originated loans along the east coast of the US. Additionally, Eric was a Senior Asset Manager in Aegon's Special Servicing group for three years during the great financial recession where he was responsible for developing and implementing loan workout strategies and / or foreclosures for sub-performing and non-performing loans. Eric received his BA in Finance with Real Estate emphasis from University of Northern Iowa, and his MBA from University of Iowa. He also earned a Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) Institute designation. Eric was a member of the University of Northern Iowa Real Estate Program Advisory Board for six years before stepping down. Previously he served as President of a parochial elementary school board, a Mentor for students in the University of Iowa Vaughan Institute of Risk Management, and advising member of the Kirkwood Community College Banking and Finance department.
