Eric P. Serna, Esq. “Makes things happen.” During his decades of achievements, Eric has demonstrated down-to-earth, executive, and professional expertise for business and the public good: Eric is skilled in legal and political arenas. He has provided local and national leadership in civic affairs, international business relations in the health and insurance sectors, and has inspired and improved local communities by enlisting leaders from lawmakers and universities to health, arts, and the grassroots to help solve local problems. He served 17 years in elected State office and his direction created broadband and telecommunication access to seniors and low-income rural communities. Eric P. Serna’s professional life can not be separated from his passion to empower the culturally distinct populations that define New Mexico. He is especially proud of his philanthropic initiatives that have raised millions of dollars on behalf of groups like the Children’s Museum, Boys & Girls Club, various education programs, international art events, and more. During his tenure as New Mexico’s Public Regulation Commission Superintendent of Insurance, he created the Con Alma Foundation with the mission to address the health and social statewide needs of underserved populations. Eric’s leadership at the Con Alma Foundation established a $28 million dollar endowment which has granted millions of dollars in funding to local groups serving tens of thousands of New Mexicans for nearly 20 years. “He makes things happen…” As National Chair of National Mexican American Legal & Education Defense Fund, he oversaw far-reaching legal and education decisions affecting Latinos nationwide. His achievements have garnered myriad awards from national, statewide, and local organizations that have bestowed the following honors: Outstanding Young Man of America, New Mexico Hispanic Bar Association Award for Excellence in Law, New Mexico Public Service Award, Award for Significant Legal Scholarship, Sigma Delta Chi – Journalism Honor Society, Scripps-Howard Foundation Award, EEOC Special Achievement Award, National Hispanic Leadership Award, Outstanding New Mexican awarded by New Mexico Jaycees, National MALEF Defense Award, and Lawyer of Distinction by the American Bar Association.
