I teach a revolving set of courses including Interactive Computer Graphics, Production Rendering, Numerical Methods, Virtual Reality, and Scientific Visualization. Developed the first course on video game design within the Computer Science curriculum. Named to the List of Instructors Ranked as Excellent by Their Students.My research includes work in the areas of data and network analytics, visualization, mixed reality, scientific computing, applied computational geometry, and high performance computing. Have worked with a variety of industrial partners, including Exxon-Mobil, the Boeing Company, and Caterpillar.

I stewarded the research and educational programs in Computational Science and Engineering, focusing on multi-disciplinary computational science. One specific effort to provide research and educational opportunities for students was teaching of the Undergraduate Research Lab class in the Department of Computer Science. In my research program, I focused on data analytics and visualization of large geometric and scientific data sets. I served as technical lead and manage a research team working on projects funded by the Department of Energy as well as industry partners. Specific projects have included mining LiDAR to automatically detect geologic features, and applying data-mining techniques to scientific simulation data.

Developed research projects and managed a research team working in the areas of scalable scientific data processing, geometric computing, parallel and GPU computing, and visualization. Developed grant proposals that brought in a total of $2 million to the University of Illinois to fund those research efforts.Technical lead and PI of multiple projects providing scientific computing solutions to The Boeing Company for use in computational fluid dynamics simulations. Co-PI and software development manager for a DOE-funded project to develop visualization tools for oil recovery efforts. Also served as Principal Investigator of a project to provide meshingtools for combustion simulation to Caterpillar Inc.Taught multiple classes in the Department of Computer Science, including Data Structures, Discrete Mathematics, Numerical Methods, an introductory Python programming course, and Scientific Visualization.

Completed research on out-of-core and memory-insensitive methods for processing large geometric data sets for computer graphics, as detailed in the thesis Scalable Methods for Processing Massive Geometric Meshes.

Designed and implemented a weather report web service for DoD chemical weapon depots.

Implemented extensions to the Save/Restore capabilities in OS/400 (later IBM i)
