As Founder at onX, I now help lead onX's advocacy efforts for giving back to outdoor recreation with a focus on access and opportunity. Our goal remains aligned with our company's mission and the effects of our products, which is to empower our customers to get outdoors and discover new places. We will accomplish this by working to create new outdoor recreation opportunities where they are responsible and feasible. We will also work to ensure these special places are secured for future generations to use. I also continue to work with the team to define short term and long term product goals. As all of our teammates are empowered to do, I provide feedback regarding improved experiences in our current products and features, as well provide input for the longer term product vision.

During my time as Founder and CEO of onX, I grew and lead a team of amazing people as they revolutionized how hunters and outdoor recreationists discover the outdoors. Our passion for helping people have great experiences outdoors was our driving force as we bootstrapped our way to becoming the leader of outdoor recreation apps. Together, we built multiple industry-leading products as GPS technology changed from dedicated handheld devices to network connected, mobile devices. Our first product was software loaded onto a microSD card to display map data on Garmin GPS devices. In July 2013, we launched our first mobile app product, onX Hunt, and effectively converted our hard goods business to subscription software as a service. Throughout all of this, our team experimented and honed our shared vision for organized recreation information that empowers the world to discover the frontcountry and backcountry through the activity of their choice. We successfully completed a Series A investment and hired a CEO to lead us through the next phase of the journey.

During a scouting trip in the summer of 2008, I was inspired to create a product that allowed outdoor recreationists to see their location relative to property boundaries. I had all the public lands data on my home computer, but still couldn't be sure of property boundaries while in the field. With my mapping GPS in hand, I set out to find a way to add the land ownership information to that device. A year later, I was using prototypes, and launched the first Hunting GPS Maps products for the Garmin GPS platform in late August of 2009.

Because of my passion for organizing outdoor recreation information, during this time I experimented with projects mainly involving digitized recreation data in Google Earth. My goals during this time were to come up with better ways to organize recreation information, such as a standardized nationwide dataset of recreation opportunities on a digital platform. This lead to the creation of a few websites that are now discontinued. I learned a ton about e-commerce and Search Engine Marketing, which lead to the successful launch of huntinggpsmaps.com in the fall of 2009.
