Straight out of law school I took on the role of General Counsel for the Ute Mountain Ute Indian Tribe in Colorado. This "true generalist" position required me to be a quick study across many areas of law and business, including federal contracting, oil and gas, water rights, employment law, government relations, casino gaming, and heavy construction. As a lifelong skiing enthusiast, I then moved on to "dream job #1" - Assistant General Counsel for publicly-traded Vail Resorts. I was "embedded" with resort operations and real estate development teams at VR and expanded my already broad experience to include residential construction and related contract drafting and change order negotiation, commercial leasing, marketing and sales, environmental law, insurance programs, procurement. Importantly, I also worked directly with the company's executive committee on a variety of corporate governance and compliance projects such as SEC filings, records retention, contract policy, and outside counsel management. I then moved to Vancouver Canada for "dream job #2", VP of Risk for Intrawest (now Alterra Mountain Company). While at Intrawest I was able to effect real on-the-ground change for guests and employees, including an immediate and drastic reduction of U.S. work comp claims equalling USD $800,000.Since that time I have held a variety of roles which have allowed me maintain my ability to assist employers and clients with a broad range of issues, while continuing to sharpen my construction contracting and real estate development skill set.I have a proven track record of being a "solution provider", delivering pragmatic and effective advice and counsel, and creating well-crafted legal documents which protect and support business. A non-linear, non-traditional career path has provided a broad range of experience and perspectives, allowing me to share unique insights, strategies, and approaches to deliver results for my clients.
