Eric is the owner of Gentian Events Limited, established in 2009 to enhance public safety at events of all shapes and sizes, working at and advising those who deliver them. Gentian Events delivers the highest quality crowd management services in complex environments. He is the Chair of the United Kingdom Crowd Management Association (UKCMA) andA Director of the Events Industry Forum (EIF)He is regularly engaged with supporting Local Authorities advising on matters of crowd and public safety at events and was engaged throughout Covid times supporting the writing of guidance for events. Much of that work is advisory and unpaid. He has supported the Queens Baton Relay Policing team in establishing protocols and guides during the planning operation and remains advising them as plans develop He is a guest lecturer at Buckingham New University (Crowd Safety Management) After a 33 year police career with firearms, helicopter and covert deployments, Eric retired in 2012 after delivering the largest national event in the history of policing, the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay over 70 days and 8,000 miles.He holds FdA and BA hons in Crowd Safety Management and now delivers training in crowd and events safety in the UK, US and Canada. He also plans and delivers crowd and event safety plans, working in these roles throughout the year. He is preparing for his third major presentation at the American Events Safety Alliance 2017, was key note speaker at the Canadian ESA Safety Summit in April 2017 and was still training in the US and Canada until the Covid Lock Downs.. As an ex RAF officer and Supervisor in the Metropolitan Police for 17 of his 33 years, he is an excellent motivator, creating strong teams that achieve the objectives no matter how challenging, Fewer could be more challenging than that of of the Torch Security Team who would guard the Olympic Fame, Torch and Torchbearers for 70 days across the UK a team he built and who were awarded team of the year for 2012.He moved to New Scotland Yard as a Public Order Planner, managing Notting Hill Carnival, New Years Eve and multiple major policing operations.
