I am currently a Senior Vice President – Financial Advisor with 25 years of experience in investment management. I am a member of RBC Wealth Management’s Senior Portfolio Manager Group, and almost all of my business is in the form of fee-based discretionary portfolio management.With a background in institutional risk management, strategic investment planning, portfolio construction and individual wealth management planning, I work with individuals, families and institutions to craft global, multi-asset investment portfolios. I have been a discretionary portfolio manager since 2003 and work through RBC Wealth Management's Portfolio Focus Program. I have advised institutional investors since 1995, with capabilities including management of foundation and trust assets, defined benefit pension plans and OPEBs. I take an asset-liability approach to institutional strategy and have analytics to combine index strategies with active managers, where appropriate. Previously, I was a Senior Portfolio Manager and Co-Head of Wealth Management Services at Bear Stearns. Prior to that, I headed the Strategic Investment Advisory Group at J.P. Morgan, providing investment strategy advice to institutional clients. My Wall Street career began at J.P.Morgan as the risk manager for their proprietary investments and trading businesses and served as the business and algorithms designer for J.P. Morgan’s comprehensive market risk management system (1992-95).I hold a PhD in financial economics from Harvard University, 2 MA’s and a BA degree earned with high distinction from the University of Toronto, and have taught at Harvard, Rutgers University and SUNY. I hold the series 3, 7, 24, 63, 65 licenses. I authored/edited three books on economics and international trade and have written numerous professional articles on economics and investments, including some of the first publications on tracking error budgeting (Journal of Portfolio Mgmt, 1999) and buy-side risk management (1998).
