The Ruataniwha Water Storage Scheme was a design-build project in New Zealand to include an 83m high central clay-core rockfill dam, side channel spillway, a tunneled outlet, and a hydropower station capable of generating 6.5MW of power. Down-river the irrigation scheme to consist of various river intakes, over 15km of lined canal and approximately 200km of underground piping to provide water to irrigators over an area of 30,000 hectares. The project was unable to receive final regulatory approval.
