I redesigned and oversaw all administrative and finance functions for the Snap Foundation. This includes accounting, budgeting, investments, grants management, HR, and IT. I also evaluated impact investments that can further our mission to build the creative opportunities for underrepresented youth in Los Angeles. The Foundation committed to two impact investments so far.Significant projects include:- Development of a more diversified investment strategy that incorporates ESG values- Implementation of a new grants management system and process built around trust-based philanthropy principles- Transition of payroll provider- Redesign of financial controls to ensure operational efficiency and safeguard assets- Launch of 401k plan

My role with The SCAN Foundation evolved from a traditional controller-type function to include investments management, impact investment strategy (including ESG and DEI), and development of venture opportunities in the field of aging. As the first finance director for a new organization, I developed and managed all accounting and finance related functions. Key responsibilities include:- Management of the $250M investment portfolio - Selection and oversight of investment managers across asset classes including equity, fixed income, private equity, option strategies, and ESG funds- Developing and leading the Foundation's mission impact investment program- Due diligence and execution of direct equity investments in startup companies- Promotion of the Foundation's impact investing work through speaking and mentorship activities- Financial reporting including consolidated financial statements, annual audit, and tax returns- Budgeting and cash management Significant projects include:- Worked with the VP of Innovations to develop and launch Alive Ventures, a unique startup studio that works closely with a community of older adults, entrepreneurs, and investors to innovate in the aging space- Developed a DEI policy for investments- Worked on the design team to launch www.mycaremychoice.org, a tool to help dually eligible Medicare + Medicaid individuals choose their health insurance- Partnered with IDEO to develop a human-centered app that helps family caregivers by improving care coordination, providing live help, and curating local resources- Led a non-profit + venture collaboration between TSF, CareZone (acquired by Walmart), and The Alzheimer's Association to pilot an Alzheimer's caregiving app

Alive Ventures was a for-profit startup studio launched by The SCAN Foundation. The studio worked with entrepreneurs to develop high potential business ideas to improve the lives of older adults. Our team of designers, user researchers, brand strategist, and venture builders, worked with entrepreneurs and our community of older adults to test and iterate product designs. I split my time with Alive Ventures and The SCAN Foundation. I led the accounting, finance, and investment functions, and worked in investor relations, business plan development, and financial modeling. However, we had a startup mentality and all members of our team were involved throughout our venture development process. This included:- Primary research with our community of older adults through co-design sessions- Ideation and testing of new products and services- Market research and competitive analysis- Customer identification, user journeys, and story boarding- Wireframing concepts- Brand development - Communications strategy- Go to market strategy- Risk assessment- Pitch development- Budgeting and financial projectionsMy core finance and operation duties included:- Developing relationships with VCs and investors- Fund modeling and projections- Financial reporting - Budgeting and cash management- Payroll administration

I have volunteered as a startup mentor to several of Village Capital's healthcare accelerator programs. Topics include digital health, Medicaid, and health equity.

Consulting for this small business allowed me to apply business school lessons to turn around a struggling company. We changed the wholesale business model to online direct-to-consumer and brand collaborations. We developed a more disciplined marketing plan that established a clear brand identity and targeted the right customers to reduce customer acquisition cost. We raised capital by selectively factoring sales and rotating low interest loans and credit offers. We used Shopify to launch an all new website, manage inventory, and manage social media advertising. Results include:- Doubled sales from $700K to $1.4 million- Turned around cash management to sustain positive cash flows and pay down over $100K in debt- Improved sales forecasting and inventory management to avoid stock outs- Increased social media following and engagement (IG from 30K to 70K, FB from 20K to 50K)

My time as an internal auditor allowed me to make more direct contributions to a company and learn about all the operations of a health insurance company. Audits can be inherently adversarial but I strived to be collaborative with the departments to identify opportunities for improvement. Audit projects covered an array of health plan operations including network management,coding, sales, enrollment, fraud management, financial planning & reporting, payroll, mergers &acquisitions, and compliance.

At Ernst and Young I realized the importance of details and processes, but more importantly I learned how to balance those requirements with real world situations that require exceptions to the rules. I became a wizard at excel. I had to learn quickly about new companies and industries to become comfortable interviewing seasoned professionals and experts. I became creative at motivating teams through long 12-16 hour work days to maintain productivity and morale. -Performed quarterly reviews and annual audits of financial statements-Executed all phases of the audit including planning, substantive testing, financial analysis, design and execution of internal control testing, and presentation of audit findings to management-Worked on an array of company types from non-profit, private equity, and Fortune 500
