Eric. (Gengkun) Wang is a multidisciplinary engineer with backgrounds in mechanical, electronics, telecommunications, and software engineering. One of his research areas is 3D video processing and transmission, which he has worked on for the last six years, and produced more than 20 high-quality journal papers. The research outcomes have enabled high-quality 3D video streaming that could be applied in various industrial applications. Also, he has been working on smart irrigation for the sugarcane industry since joining JCU in 2017. In collaboration with colleagues, he has raised over $1.5M in grant funding. In the last three years, he developed a smart irrigation system that can help farmers better manage irrigation practice. The system has been adopted by several farmers in the Burdekin region and attracted many industry interests. Besides, he has also been working on developing IoT solutions for local businesses, including one recent innovation connection grant in developing a smart vacuum cleaner for commercial cleaning businesses.
