Prior to joining Sussex Police I worked at a large outdoor activity centre in Dorset. My time there developed my communication and leadership skills; Risk assessing, health and safety awareness; sense of humour and patience! I joined Sussex Police in 1989 and served in a uniformed role throughout. I have extensive experience in training and handling dogs for explosive, narcotic, firearm and cash detection as well as the better known roles of General Purpose and Firearm Support dogs. I was promoted in 2008 and moved to a busy Neighbourhood Response section at Brighton. This was a challenging role providing development opportunities including critical incident management, fast time decision making, risk and threat assessment, team management, stakeholder engagement, partnership working, organisation and planning, staff welfare and performance management and large scale policing operations.As an Inspector I managed the force's Assessment and Verification Team overseeing probationers and newly promoted Sergeants and Inspectors. I am a qualified Assessor and Internal Quality Assurer (through CMI). I am also a trained coach and mentor and am an accredited practitioner with Insights Discovery.I have been awarded the Queen's Commendation For Bravery and 2 Chief Constable's Commendations.Having retired I knew I would need an exciting new challenge to keep me occupied. I have completed an Advanced Canine Behaviour Diploma, giving me accreditation as a Behaviour Practitioner and trainer. I have just launched my own company "Wells Behaved Dogs", which you can find on Facebook and the internet. If you need help with your dog get in touch, I offer remote consultations!
