I moved into a Security Solutions Architecture role to focus on providing our clients with security solutions. This is a pre-sales role where I am required to understand my client’s business and technical requirements and craft appropriate Cybersecurity solutions across a vast range of products, technologies and services.

Over the last few years I have stayed in the same team but my role has focused more on pre-sales architecture and consulting engagements. Previously my focus was more on post sales design and implementation.

Working in a team of network specialists and consultants comprising CCIE's and other highlevel engineers. All complex design work and troubleshooting is done by this team.Responsibilities: I primarily work on new projects where I have the following responsibilities:* Low level network designs for customers* Running technical design workshops to gather client requirements* Closely working with project managers to ensure project success* Handover of network designs to implementation engineers* Assisting the implementation engineer if need be* Involvement with project sign off and hand over into an operational environmentProjects:* IT service provider - Design of a local network including advanced QoS features for anIP telephony deployment* Health Care provider - Design and implementation of various upgrades to their network.Including network load balancing features for their web facing servers* Vehicle tracking company - Design and implementation of a local area network for IPtelephony and data* Pharmaceutical Company - Design of a local area network including advanced QoS featuresfor IP telephony and data

Tomorrow Communications is a small consultancy firm specializing in network design andimplementation. During my time at Tomorrow communications I worked on two accounts, namelyBskyB, as part of their network design team, and GMAC RFC, as an external designconsultant.Responsibilities:Representing Tomorrow Communications in the BSkyB design team I was responsible fornetwork design and implementation of projects I was placed on. The biggest project Iworked at BSkyB was the data centre consolidation project. I started on the projecttowards the tail end of a new UK DC implementation and was responsible for finalizing someun-finished implementation work. Once this work was completed I was responsible for designand implementation of a new DC in Amsterdam.At GMAC RFC I was responsible for designing a new campus and DC network based around theclients requirements.Technologies:During my time with Tomorrow Communications I have been involved with the followingtechnologies:* Data Centre technologies - Best practice core, distribution and access architectures* Data Centre technologies - Load balancing design and implementation with Cisco ACE andCSM* Data Centre technologies - Security design and implementation with Cisco FWSM, PIX/ASA* VPN technologies - LAN to LAN IPSEC design and implementation* QoS technologies - Design of a QoS solution for IP telephony on a Cisco Campus LAN* Web Farm technologies - Involved with implementation of a new Web/internet accesssolution

Working in Viatel's Network Operations Center doing tier 3 support, provisioning of newcustomers on the network and designing of networks for new customers.Responsibilities: The tier 3 support team is responsible for all high level operational issues experiencedon Viatel's MPLS network and on Viatel customer VPN networks. I was also responsible forprovisioning of new customers requiring MPLS VPN connectivity or normal internetconnectivity over a range of different media including DSL, frame-relay and Ethernet.

A team of network specialists comprising CCIE's and other high level engineers. Allcomplex design work and high-level troubleshooting is done by this team.Responsibilities: Initially I performed escalation duties for the Helpdesk/TAC and troubleshooting for high-level problems. Later on I was responsible for producing detailed micro designs forcustomers. Together with the designs I was also responsible for the roll out of thedesign.Projects:* Health Insurance Provider - Installation and maintenance of 2000+ user campus* Implementation of BGP Internet connectivity for web services* Auditing Firm - Campus and WAN installation and maintenance* Platinum Mine - Involvement from initial tender response through to detailed microdesign and migration of a large and complex campus from token ring to Ethernet * University - Installation of Campus LAN of 10 000 users and the installation of theirWAN* Gold Refinery - Installation of Cabletron Campus* Stock Brokers - Campus and WAN installation and maintenance* GSM Provider - Implementation of Dial solution

I joined the Dimension Data networking division in January 1997 having completed secondary school the year before. Working my way through the networking organization I attained CCIE certification in July 2001 at the ripe old age of 22.

The implementations team in the roll of TPL; Roll out of Cisco Campus and WAN networks for smaller networks for many differentcustomers. Example: o WAN roll out for a glass product manufacturero WAN and Campus roll out for a pharmaceutical company* Assisting senior engineers with large network implementations. Example: o Large ATM network for a gold mineo Switch roll out for a bank

Working in the field services team, driving to customer sites to attend fault calls.Within this environment I assisted many customers in various different industries. Responsibilities: * Replacement of fault hardware for primarily Cisco routers and switches but alsoincluding any other network equipment* Troubleshooting of networking issues experienced at customer sites
