Serving as an Expert on the ICVCM's Sustainable Development Benefits & Social Safeguards Continuous Improvement Working Group - Guiding the development of ICVCM requirements for carbon project related benefits sharing and social safeguards. This is a volunteer position.

Led the development of a tech-enabled platform and service to accelerate the carbon project development process and secure project finance for project operators by directly connecting supply and demand via voluntary carbon markets. Structured and negotiated project finance for both REDD+ and ARR projects ranging from $5m to $30m developing innovative finance structures that were equitable for all parties, especially land stewards and local communities. Led Earthshot's efforts in policy and public affairs including engagements with IETA, ICVCM, VCMI, SBTi and Article 6.2 and 6.4. Served on the executive team and supported organizational growth from 6 to 40+ people.

Founded and led the growth of the cooperative to more than 60 conservation and restoration operators across Africa, SE Asia and Latin America. Recognized as an Uplink Top Innovator in the Carbon Markets Challenge, the Carbon Cooperative was a global network of land stewards actively conserving and restoring ecosystems coming together to share learnings and support each other to access carbon markets while advocating for high quality natural climate solutions. As a learning and knowledge-sharing platform, the Carbon Cooperative contributed to democratizing information on accessing carbon markets while ensuring that carbon finance is structured to benefit land stewards equitably. The Cooperative was fully volunteer led with community resources curated by member organizations.

Advised the Gorongosa Project and Gorongosa National Park on strategic development, finance and certification of a suite of high quality and high impact nature-based carbon projects across 1M+ hectares including both avoided emissions and carbon removals.

Project Leadership: Lead the development of Gorongosa’s landscape carbon offsets initiative across 2.5M+ hectares from the rainforests of Mount Gorongosa to the mangrove forests of Marromeu. Developed innovative tools to link project outcomes with sustainable finance (carbon, biodiversity, ecosystem services, human development, etc). Developed and managed relationships with carbon credit project developers, verifiers, investors and buyers. Developed the investment and sales strategy based on voluntary carbon offset market and compliance markets analysis while ensuring alignment with international climate agreements.Enterprise Strategic Vision: Developed long-term financial and operational strategy for the unique hybrid non-profit/for-profit structure to support conservation and human development. Created and expanded sustainable revenue-generating enterprises that are focused on creating regenerative local livelihoods and catalyzing a green regional economy - including the expansion of the Our Gorongosa global brand of agroforestry products (coffee, honey and cashew) and the Experience Gorongosa transformative eco-tourism enterprise.

Product Leadership: Led brand development based on ethnographic research with our target customers. Negotiated and managed production contracts with co-packers producing a differentiated product line based on market demand and a customer analysis. Developed operational tools to mitigate risk and ensure on-time delivery of products.Product Launch: Developed the go-to-market strategy incorporating marketing and sales strategy across North American and European markets through D2C, retail and B2B sales. Evaluated and iterated on go-to-market strategy by creating profit and loss models and developed cost/benefit models for multiple go-to-market approaches. Grew the company from the initial employee to managing a cross-functional team of twelve employees with over $100,000 in annual revenue.

Mentorship: Coached a diverse group of 65 triathletes. Helped to set and pursue their physical goals while creating a team culture based in belonging and community. Created training activities and exercises that were specifically designed to support the mental and emotional wellbeing of athletes.

Social Venture Founder Experience: Founded and led the ideation, prototyping and launch of a community software platform to address the mental health crisis in higher education. Managed all aspects of business incorporation, fundraising, business administration and legal as well as leading a team of eight core team members and contractors.Product Development: Led a cross-functional team of UX, software developers, marketers and scientists in developing an SMS platform to engage students in daily reflection and engaging with peer-to-peer support adopted by more than 150 student users. Designed and led ethnographic UX research and rapid prototyping methodologies to develop platform. Developed a natural-language processing application that aggregated and analyze anonymous student reflections to provide key mental health data to students and administration.We aim for Karuna to grow into a health platform of community and connection. A platform that connects and inspires our friends, family, colleagues to provide the support, affirmation, motivation and accountability to each other -- the keys to having the confidence and commitment to do the little things that are so vital to our well-being. We often don’t need a health coach, we just need each other and a bit of genuine community. Our hope is that Karuna amplifies community, connection, compassion, generosity and altruism in our society.

Served as an advisor to the Legado Initiative's East Africa portfolio of community conservation projects regarding organizational strategy, program development, fundraising and public/private partnerships.

Project Management: Led strategic programmatic design to create a community conservation area. Developed and managed relationships with government, private partners and local stakeholders. Managed activities for a consortium of three implementing partners and five field staff. Wrote and secured more than $250K in funding grants. Developed budget projections and managed the accounting, monitoring and evaluation and report writing.Director of Programs with primary focus on the Legado: Namuli Initiative which strives to empower local communities to establish a community integrated conservation area for Mozambique's Mount Namuli in concert with rural development for the communities surrounding Mount Namuli. Managing the Legado: Fellows Initiative, which aims to empower and support emerging African leaders who excel at using a multidisciplinary approach to conserving the natural world and driving positive change for human societies.

Curriculum Design: Designed and taught undergraduate and graduate level class, Current Topics in Sustainable Engineering, a project-based design course that addresses the cultural, political, organizational, technical, and business issues at the heart of implementing sustainable engineering projects in the developing world.Mentorship: Supported teams of students to identify viable projects and work with project partners to develop innovative engineering solutions.

Partnered with Sanivation, a social entrepreneurship organization focused on implementing container-based sanitation solutions with resource recovery to develop a toilet designed for anal washing communities and assess decentralized treatment and disposal options for the liquid waste. The motivation of the research was to reach more of the Kenyan population with container-based sanitation services and reduce the costs of transport that are often the primary cost drivers in fecal sludge management sanitation service systems. Additionally, worked on a decision-making tool to guide local utility managers in determining how to invest in urban sanitation based on economic, environmental, social and health key performance indicators.

Meaningful Communication: Translated the outputs of scientific analyses into policy briefs to inform policy development and financial decision-making. Completed stakeholder analysis to determine motivations for each stakeholder group to participate in payment for ecosystem services agreements. Completed ethnographic analysis of community motivations, benefits and challenges to develop participatory governance strategies to increase community engagement and participation.Quantitative Analysis: Assessed the cost effectiveness of three Brazilian Water Funds developed as a market mechanism to ensure freshwater provision.

Analysis: Analyzed General Circulation Models (GCMs) climate data using Matlab. Analyzed the runoff for watersheds at a country level as well as producing maps to illustrate the results of the analysis in GIS. Analyzed the effectiveness of bias correction and spatial disaggregation techniques to apply GCMs produced data to specific global regions using Matlab. Assisted in the writing of Green Growth and Climate Change Reports for the World Bank.

Primary project: Teaching physics at a secondary school in Alto Molocue, Mozambique. Secondary Projects: - Initiating and leading a study group, science club and english club. - Building a local primary school library and organizing and implementing a community driven literacy campaign. - 2014 National Coordinator of the Science and HIV/AIDS Prevention Fair. A collaboration between Peace Corps Volunteers and the Mozambican Ministry of Science and Technology to run District, Provincial and National Science fairs to provide an opportunity for experiential learning and to promote scientific inquiry and a creative presentation of scientific findings.
