Shadowing a Speech-Language Pathologist at Camden Clark Medical Center in Parkersburg, West Virginia, gave me an incredible opportunity to see firsthand the dynamic role of an SLP in a healthcare setting. I observed the evaluation and treatment of patients with speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders, gaining insight into how SLPs work with individuals recovering from strokes, brain injuries, and other neurological conditions. It was fascinating to see the collaboration between the SLP, doctors, nurses, and occupational therapists, and how this teamwork enhances patient outcomes. I also learned about the importance of developing individualized therapy plans and educating patients and their families throughout the recovery process.
