Eric Paul Wyffels, MD, FESC an interventional cardiologist by training started his career in Aalst in 1997. In 2000 he was the cofounder of the Cardiology Department in Asse and actively involved in the merger of the "Heilig Hart Ziekenhuis Asse & Ninove" with the "OLV-Ziekenhuis Aalst". In 2008 Eric was elected as board member of the Medical Council, serving as their president for 14 months. In 2013 Eric was appointed as Chief Medical Officer, reporting to the Chair of the Board of Directors and together with the CEO responsible for Improving Performance and Quality through execution of strategy.What initially started as a succesful turnaround gradually materialised into 7 consecutive positive fiscal years in which 2 JCI accreditations and an EPD implementation was realised. Since 2018 Eric chairs the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine @ Cardiovascular Centre Aalst acting as their managing director.In 2019 the Cardiovascular Centre Aalst, aka Hartcentrum OLV Aalst , transformed into a holding with 4 different entities. 1. A professional multidisciplinary association ( “ maatschap “ ) of 36 cardiovascular specialists working across three hospitals and 5 sites : organising integrated cardiovascular care in OLV-Ziekenhuis Aalst-Asse-Ninove, Algemeen Ziekenhuis Glorieux Ronse and Sint-Maria Ziekenhuis Halle. 2. A non for profit research organisation ( Cardiovascular Research Centre VZW) and two different legal entities organising industry sponsored and contracted or academic research ( CoreAalst BV and Cardiac Research Institute BV )The centre serves since 40+ years as a reference and teaching centre for a large geographical area. It is offering a full training in different aspects of cardiovascular medicine : besides full training in general clinical cardiology the centre offers different clinical and scientific fellowship-programs ( electrofysiology, heartfailure and transplantation, interventional cardiology, echocardiography and non invasive imaging , rehabilitation cardiology and cardiac surgery ) and is together with the University of Naples Federico II
