From being labeled a "bad student" as a child to aspiring to pursue one of the most challenging careers as an investment banker. Here is my journey.I spent the first 19 years of my life in Taiwan. As early as the 1st grade, I struggled academically and was often categorized as a "bad student" in my teachers' eyes. I vividly remember being told, "You won't have a bright future if you don't study hard and get good grades." (Well, that hurt.) As a 7 or 8-year-old, I couldn't comprehend why my academic performance was looked lacking, and I grew increasingly frustrated with every class in elementary and middle school.Questions like "What can I become if I'm not good at anything?" constantly plagued my thoughts. Fortunately, my parents noticed my concerns and actively supported me in exploring my true interests. They encouraged me to participate in various activities, including sports, music, and extracurricular endeavors. At the age of 17, I joined a finance analysis project, and it was here that I discovered my true passion. In this project, we had to analyze companies, create financial models, and present our investment proposals to fellow team members. It was a challenging work! I initially struggled to grasp concepts like reading financial reports, using modeling tools, and collaborating effectively with others to achieve optimal results. But I soon realized that I was capable of dedicating over 8 consecutive hours and strong desire to learning about concepts like the Cash Flow Statement, DCF, and essential financial ratios. This experience led me to the profound realization that "I'm not stupid; I just hadn't discovered what I love doing." In addition, because of this opportunity, it gave me a chance to know more different industries in the business world, which also drive me to want to do one of the most challenging jobs - Investment Banking.Subsequently, I committed to rebuilding my foundation in mathematics and other crucial business skills to prepare for my future career. I also utilized my time management skills, achieving a 4.0 GPA and earning a full-time scholarship. My journey has equipped me with the determination and mindset necessary to continue pursuing my goal of becoming an investment banker.I firmly believe that with unwavering determination and a resilient mindset, we can achieve far more than we could ever imagine.
