ERIC FOR EVERYONE * ERIC PARA TODOS (TM). I was born in Chicago, IL to working class parents who instilled a great sense of perseverance and community within me. I'm the first to obtain a college degree in my family and I have recognized the sacrifices that my parents and family have had to make in order for me to succeed. I'm a graduate from Gage Park High School and Loyola University of Chicago, Class of 2007, where I studied Criminal Justice and Minor Communications.During college I worked as an academic coach to provide college awareness through one of Loyola University of Chicago’s outreach programs they coordinate in partnership with low-income Chicago Public High Schools.Throughout the last 3 years, I've demonstrated leadership ability and effectiveness in my community by working with residents and civic leaders on a variety of issues. My service in the neighborhood, where I have lived for more than 19 years, speaks devotion and commitment to our Ward.As an elected member of the Local School Council for Gage Park High School, I work directly with parents, faculty members, students and residents in the 16th Ward to strengthen the school.As a Chicago Block Club founder, I work hard to advocate for the improvement of City Services as well as to keep the 16th Ward clean and safe by building block clubs, sponsoring community meetings, actively participate in cleaning up the neighborhood and reducing the influence of street gangs in the community. I also appeared on Chicago’s Crime Watch TV to promote “The Birth of a Block Club” to encourage others to improve their neighborhoods.I work in collaboration with Domestic Violence Protection Services, as an Advocate Against Domestic Violence.I was an advisor for the Youth Violence Prevention program at the Cook County Hospital, which provided training for the hospitals health care workers.Specialties: I've worked in cooperation with The Salvation Army to provide basic services to the community of Chicago Lawn and Gage Park.I also serve as Chairman of the CAPS Youth Sub-Committee, am a Bilingual-Beat Facilitator, an active participant and advocate of the CAPS program, which focuses on public safety and programs, to improve the city’s services to the community.Being active in the community is a life-long commitment for me and I look forward to serving as the next 16th Ward Alderman.
