Erica is working with Bruker Daltonics' Life Sciences Mass Spectrometry team as Vice President of Metabolomics overseeing the Americas and Asia Pacific. She is responsible for developing and improving existing metabolomics and lipidomics workflows in-line with the applications team and customers. Erica's 9+ years experience in the mass spectrometry-based metabolomics field is a key driver to her success in this role including fundamental knowledge of mass analysis and ion mobility, as well as bioinformatics solutions for in-depth data analysis.Prior to her role at Bruker, she was an assistant professor at San Diego State University. Her research focused on mass spectrometry-based metabolomics of microbiomes, with a particular focus on the microbiome-gut-brain axis. Erica was a post-doctoral fellow at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, CA, at the Center for Metabolomics and Mass Spectrometry under the , where she worked on global metabolomics on biological samples for the study of immunotherapy, Parkinson's disease and bacterial remediation of contaminated environmental sites, as well as mass spectrometry-based tissue imaging. Her graduate career was spent at McMaster University in Hamilton, ON, Canada, developing high throughput screening assays for the identification of enzyme inhibitors in complex mixtures using tandem mass spectrometry. Here she gained valuable expertise in mass spectrometric method development, enzyme kinetics, silicon chemistry, secondary metabolite screening from natural product extracts, recombinant DNA technology, bacterial cell culture, protein expression and purification.
Listed skills include Mass Spectrometry, Chemistry, Spectroscopy, Lc Ms, and 30 others.

Leading the Metabolomics Business Unit at Bruker Life Sciences Mass Spectrometry with a focus on the Americas and Asia Pacific.
San Diego, California, United States
I am very pleased to announce that Erica Forsberg has joined Bruker as the Metabolomics Americas Market Manager. Erica comes to us from San Diego State University where she was an assistant professor of chemistry. Prior to that, Erica obtained her PhD in chemical biology at McMaster s, and postdoctoral training at The Scripps Research Institute where she developed bioinformatics for untargeted metabolomics data analysis. In her new role, Erica will be responsible for managing the US Metabolomics application team within the Life Sciences Mass Spectrometry Metabolomics Business Unit.Erica will work remotely based out of San Diego, CA and will be supporting the Americas commercial team in promoting Metabolomics and Lipidomics workflows and driving the continuous improvement of Bruker MS solutions for customer challenges and needs.
Greater San Diego Area
Erica is a tenure-track assistant professor in analytical and bioanalytical chemistry in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at San Diego State University. Her expertise lies in mass spectrometry and metabolomics, techniques she will be using to study the gut microbiome and the interaction between their metabolism and human health. In particular interest is relationship between microbe-produced metabolites and neurological function, also known as the gut-brain axis. Her group is developing culture methods for anaerobic bacteria to mimick the intestinal environment and probing these systems with stressors such as change in diet, antibiotic exposure and prebiotics. High resolution mass spectrometry is used to profile microbial metabolomes on a global scale; the aim of this research is to develop bioinformatic techniques that can identify mechanistic interactions between microbial communities and with the host.
La Jolla, California
As a research associate in the Scripps Center for Metabolomics and Mass Spectrometry, Erica has worked in clinical research on elucidating the function of Parkinson's Disease patients treated with the immunomodulatory drug Sargramostim; developing global isotope metabolomic workflows for studying bacterial communities in contaminated environmental sites; developing the Systems Biology Platform in XCMS Online (xcmsonline.scripps.edu); synthesizing novel perfluorinated gold nanoparticles for mass spectrometry tissue imaging applications including a study on mouse colon and cecum samples .
Mcmaster University, Hamilton, On
Erica has been actively involved in research in the field of bioanalytical chemistry applying nano liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry to the discovery and identification of protein-binding ligands. Her position also requires technical skills in instrumentation maintenance, synthesis of immobilization materials and enzyme kinetics.
