Professional Experience and Goals – Linked InThroughout my career my goal has been to improve the quality of life for my clients. From my early experience as a psychiatric social worker in community mental health centers, to my more recent experience as a geriatric care manager and a registered professional guardian, I have worked to help clients focus on their strengths, adjust to their limitations, and accept their support networks. The beauty of care management is the orchestration, with client and family involvement, of multiple parts of the environment, so that the result is a living situation that is safe, supportive, and enjoyable - whether at home or in an alternate housing situation. The other result is peace of mind for family and friends.I have also enjoyed consulting on program development and customer service, with social service agencies serving older adults in various settings - at home, in retirement communities, or in adult day care centers. While working for a social service agency a few years ago, I wrote a successful grant proposal to the Retirement Research Foundation to create a volunteer program in 5 communities in Chicago. We trained older adults to be advocates for their elderly neighbors, and helped them apply for benefits for which they were eligible. Hundreds of community residents benefited from being helpers and receivers of help. It was very rewarding to see the project through from initial conception, through funding, and then successful execution. After selling my private geriatric care management company in 2005 I tasted retirement while my non-compete agreement was in effect. Traveling, drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, poetry, and dancing were lots of fun. But none of these activities provided the creative satisfaction and feeling of success I enjoyed as a social worker. So I am shifting gears and going back to what I love to do best - helping a company or agency provide exceptional service to older adults.Specialties: Consultation, case management, case management supervision, program development, outreach, marketing, relationship building, client engagement (sales), assessment of needs, care planning, care plan implementation, care monitoring, service coordination, public speaking, teaching
