About Erica Machulak

Founder of Hikma Strategies, where we help scholars and specialists bring their ideas to new contexts through communication and collaboration. As a writer, editor, and facilitator, I believe that the world needs to hear more from people who resist easy answers. While working in the VP, Research and Innovation Office at the University of British Columbia, I developed a virtual course to train faculty in communication and partnership development, and co-led grant development programs for Social Sciences and Humanities competitions. Since completing my PhD thesis on medieval intellectual history, I continue to publish, including recent articles in Inside Higher Ed, Intellect Ltd, and Humanities, the magazine of the National Endowment for the Humanities. I hold degrees from the University of Pennsylvania (BA), the University of Oxford (MSt.), and the University of Notre Dame (PhD). One of my first students described my teaching style as "chill but demanding." I bring that balance of tenacity and good humor to all of my undertakings.
