In 2023, as a way to give back to my community and get outdoors more often, I started my journey as a volunteer outdoor leader and adventure coach at Flowstate. In that short period of time, I've helped over 100 disadvantaged and at-risk youth between Parachute and Glenwood Springs to experience the joy, excitement, and camaraderie of mountain biking, skiing, and snowboarding in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.Flowstate is more than a kids' club, it's a lifestyle.Many of the youth we serve would otherwise never have the opportunity to experience our majestic Colorado mountains through the lens of outdoor adventure. We're creating not only memories, but skills, perspectives, respect and passion of the outdoors that will last lifetimes.Flowstate, a registered 501c3, launched two years ago as a mountain biking club out of Rifle Middle School, where it still operates from today. At the time we had no bikes, no budget, and a whole lot of passion to get middle school kids outdoors and onto mountain bikes. We posted fliers of the club at our local bike shop in New Castle, and asked the community to start donating used bikes. One of the students, along with our co-founder, Teodore Miu, repaired all of the donated bikes and got them to a point of being rideable off-road. Just two years later and we regularly host over thirty 6th-8th graders every mountain bike season (spring and fall), and we have ridden, camped and built memories in places like Snowmass Bike Park, Redstone, Rifle, Fruita, Moab and more.As a not-for-profit, Flowstate operates solely from community donations of equipment, time, access, and cash. At this time we are seeking support to not only continue, but elevate, the programs, adventures, and opportunities for the kids at Flowstate.
