Discoveries in genomics, proteomics and other ‘omics provide a foundation for research into understanding critical biological pathways, potential drug targets, biomarkers, all of which lead to improved ways of understanding, diagnosing, treating and preventing life-changing illnesses. Harnessing the full capabilities of the ‘omic cutting-edge frontier of scientific research requires collaborations with industry, academia, non-profits, and healthcare systems in order to build and interrogate sufficiently large and diverse data-sets to generate statistically significant findings. As Head of Genetics and Human Data Law, I provided the necessary legal support to Amgen in these transactions, ensured protection of IP, and partnered with our compliance teams to meet worldwide data protection requirements.

• Lead biotechnology patent litigation in the U.S. and abroad while also actively participating in all aspects of case from motion drafting through witness and argument preparation at trial.• Negotiate and draft agreements—guide licensing group, negotiate contracts with service providers, assist in drafting and negotiating settlement agreements.• Regularly interface with business units, scientists, regulatory and operations personnel, medical directors, project managers, and other lawyers.• Perform comprehensive freedom to operate analyses on pipeline and existing products facing thick competition. • Counsel with regard to patent prosecution.
